Tim-bParticipant
There was this discussion at the Gearslutz forum about the wording in Splice’s contract which made it seem like you were creating a derivative work with Splice’s samples instead of using them royalty free: https://www.gearslutz.com/board/music-for-picture/1245209-composers-do-not-use-splice-public-service-announcement.html
I think eventually Splice changed the wording of their agreement.
Then there were also some instances of sample packs appearing that included loops ripped straight from Heavyocity’s Damage and other sample packs!
I’m not using Splice myself but I thought that some people on here might want to know about this.
Tim-bParticipantHa! JP surely must have an internal fingerprinting/watermarking system in place that can detect these loops! ๐
Tim-bParticipantIt seems like they’re offering construction kits, I wonder if it’s from songs in the JP catalog (music done in house?) or if it is content especially created for Splice.
Tim-bParticipantHi Carles,
Are you still looking for co-writers with some more experience on the sounddesign/synth side? Here’s a trailer album of mine that was released recently to get an idea of what I do: https://searchmusic.twistedjukebox.com/#/album/TJ0125/caa558f489e9b180
Let me know if you’re interested!
Tim-bParticipantHaha, like many here E.M. also immediately came to mind! But usually mine got greenlit after the first revision only occasionally I had to do a second and maybe a 3rd revision. They have gotten me some OK placements over the years though.
(Btw, I’m a different Tim than the one above me!)
Tim-bParticipantThank you Art! I’ll try that link.
Tim-bParticipantIs it still possible to create an account on the Competitrack/Numerator website? I couldn’t find anything about that on the site…
Tim-bParticipantIf your financial situation allows it you could give them back the advance and take the songs elsewhere. Yes it was a verbal agreement but that was based on their previous business model, they changed their minds so you can as well in my opinion.
Tim-bParticipantHi Mdeman,
I’m also based in the Netherlands, you only have to pay income taxes on royalties, not VAT, see these links: https://mediafederatie.nl/veelgestelde-vragen/zijn-uitbetalingen-van-royaltys-belast-met-btw/ and https://www.belastingdienst.nl/wps/wcm/connect/bldcontentnl/belastingdienst/zakelijk/btw/tarieven_en_vrijstellingen/vrijstellingen/vrijstelling_voor_componisten_schrijvers_cartoonisten_en_journalisten
Tim-bParticipantAnd of course right after posting this I found an answer in this news article from 2000!
https://www.bmi.com/news/entry/20000725_new_bmi_ncta_agreement_to_yield_significantly_increased_fees
Tim-bParticipantWelcome Amanda!
Do you also sing/record vocals?
Tim
Tim-bParticipantDon’t know what country you are from but I’m from the Netherlands and I fill in the following:
Article nr.: 13
Rate: 0%
Type of income: royaltiesI don’t fill anything in at “Explain the reasons…”.
Tim-bParticipantNo, not that I know of. But maybe it’s best if you would e-mail them at info @ bumastemra.nl they answer pretty quickly and are quite helpful!
Tim-bParticipantYou can notify Buma of the usage (via your online account or e-mail) and they will communicate this to Gema.
Tim-bParticipantThanks for the answer!
A shame about question nr. 1… I found this news article: http://www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/1407133/bmi-buys-bluearrow-music-recognition-service
I wonder why they acquired that technology when they are not even using it!
