Is a great resource for all things sample based. The definition of what is good, or not ,varies a lot to put it mildly.
woodsdenisParticipantEast West QLSO is very dated, if its general orchestral Symphobia is a great all rounder, big section sound. If you compose full orchestra mockups then its a whole different ball game, you are talking Lass, Cinesamples etc. East West QLSO really wouldn’t cut it today in that company.
For general orchestra additions to tracks Project SAM’s Orchestral Essentials has got great reviews, I would definitely check that out before East West QLSO. I have East West QLSO and it really sounds tame compared to what the newer developers are doing and indeed East West’s own newer libraries .
woodsdenisParticipantHappy Holidays to my US cousins. My daughter (aged 4) did a Thanksgiving play at school today complete with Mayflower,Pilgrims and Indians!!!! Very cute.
Dont eat too much and don’t forget Black Friday sales, just nabbed Evolve Mutations 1/2 for half price.
woodsdenisParticipantwoodsdenis – does your spreadsheet get ‘cramped’? Mine’s a disaster!!
I limit each spreadsheet/file to 50 tracks with 10 tracks per sheet. I have tick boxes for companies that I have sent to and are pending etc. I actually print them off and use a pencil for day to day stuff like filling in tempo etc. These sheets only track companies/length/tempo and pro registration. at a glance I can see where any track is placed or submitted
BUT
I have a completely different spreadsheet for descriptions and key words, this is updated on the computer. If you are on a Mac the Chambers thesaurus app is a godsend for keywords.
“It actually works pretty well for me, but you do get really good at copy/paste in this business ”
Ha how true
If I had both together it would be a disaster
woodsdenisParticipantI use Numbers for Mac. An Excel clone really.

woodsdenisParticipantBest tip I ever got from a very successful producer, take a 10-15 min break every hour. I would work 5-6 hours a day. Apart from that its the old 90% perspiration 10% inspiration line.

Art had a great saying which is something like ” your next gig is only an email or phone call away” Art please correct this !!!!!
I have borrowed this and used my paraphrased version many times over the last couple of years.

Sometimes gear gives you a certain sound, Jagged Little Pill was recorded on ADAT.

Having the latest Computer and software does in no way guarantee quality. In fact it could be argued that modern software enables the production of low quality music with an acceptable production value. Really anyone could bang out a reasonable effort in GarageBand. However as a user of highend software, it enables me to be very productive and quickens my workflow considerably. Changes in tracks take minutes not hours. I did start out on a Teac 4track reel to reel so I appreciate the difference LOL
woodsdenisParticipantStay safe over there guys and gals.
woodsdenisParticipantOh I forgot the big one , Melodyne integration !!!!!!!!!!
woodsdenisParticipantJust got this.
Pros, Very stable and good VST and AU integration. 64 bit. Quick drag and drop workflow. Very good deals to be had with cross grades from an existing DAW.
Cons. Doesn’t have the audio/midi bells and whistles that Protools/logic/DP have but then again no legacy bloat.
Best linear writing/composition DAW for Mac IMHO. It will never beat Protools for audio mixing and editing but I don’t think that’s its market.
woodsdenisParticipantDownloaded the demo, not the prettiest DAW but very quick and some very cool workflow ideas. will investigate further.
woodsdenisParticipantAnders, usually your local PRO will have an affiliation with BMI or ASCAP. Check with them. Depending on the individual PRO, you may not be able to be a member of two collection agencies at the same time. Every PRO has their own take on it.
In Ireland (IMRO) ASCAP is the default partner in the States. You can change to BMI if you wish.
