    So, who are these majors?

THIS is gonna sound CRAZY. But, you asked.
I’m “almost sure” that the only Major I’m not with is Warner Bros. Had an opportunity last year, but I’m WAY over-extended..

https://pmamusic.com/all-prefixes/ . and just because a library is not a member of the PMA doesn’t mean they are not kicking ass at getting placements.

This is truth. I am with several majors, and The Boutiques I am with are doing as well; if not doing better..

Also, to answer a question. just about all of the “Top-Tier Libraries” now have a submissions email right on their webpage. I know for a fact it works.

Hi there Keith, I hope you are well. Happy 2020 to You!

Right now, it’s BEYOND competitive. It’s Brutal!!

To be honest, I couldn’t hear it standing out right now, especially with The amount of Sound Design, and Reverb/Wash that is on mixes right now.

Question: On the Second song, have you thought about making it a “Vocal Tune”? I could hear like really “Retro-ing” it out; and putting like a Flock of Seagulls, ABC, Depeche type Vocal arrangement.

    Just a thought..

Hi all. To people with more years in the game. When you submit music to a library, and the auto reply email states the owner listens, but then a composer from the same library does.
I’ve sent quite a few subs but never seen this before.
    Thanks

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. More than likely, the “Composer” is either the owner of The Library; or is their “A&R” and all of the submissions go through them..

I have a couple of predictions in 2020

    1) Punk Bands will be getting a TON of Placements.
    2) Scripps & Discovery will be in The Library Business
    3) Little Teenage Girls on IPad’s will Dominate The EDM & Trap Markets.

Also, I have a feeling that Women DJ’s will be a MAJOR Force too!!

At some point – maybe too far away for me to partake in – the public will tire of loops, 4 bar compositions, beat makers as “composers”, and laptop productions. Real music will rise like the Phoenix from the ashes of music 2020. Creativity and music can NOT be kept down.

I literally feel like I’m sitting at a Movie Theater eating Popcorn; as I watch “Ground-Hog Day”. I keep saying these “How To Make It In The TV/Film Licensing” companies are LITERALLY creating Bottle-necks in the traffic; at the same section of The Freeway EVERYDAY.

As well, if they DID really know where the Great Placements, and The Nice Gravy Trains Were (By The Way, they DO NOT) “Do You Really Think They Would Give You Their ACE-In-The-Hole?!!”

I used to make a little bit of money on the side by producing lots of tracks (mostly EDM)

There’s Your “Hook” right there. While you are taking the time to really understand trailer music. In the meantime, Incorporate your knowledge of EDM; and mix it with Orchestral, Strings, Brass, Woodwind, and possibly even “Toy Sounds”.

To be very honest, one of the main problems with EDM & Trap is “You can’t use it for a lot of General Applications”. Find the “Sweet-spot & Balance” and land the placements while you learn Trailer & Theme.

Hi Kobly, I hope you are doing well! As well, Happy New Year to You!

Now, please take no offense, but you did say that you need input so you can get better.

Question: Are you switching from some other genre’s to Trailer/Theme Music? Because I do hear that you are not novice; BUT, I am also hearing that you have not quite “digested” what all goes into making “really proficient, authentic, and competitive Music for thie marketplace”.

With Trailer & Theme being probably one of the MOST “saturated” genres; and many of your competitors “almost” as good as Hans Zimmer, Michael Giacchino, and Elfman (Big Up to Jacob Collier!!) You’re gonna literally have to “eat, Breathe, Sleep, and Poop this Music to even get noticed”.

Please take no offense. Right now is a time where You’re gonna have to be totally exceptional; or totally unique to get those placements.

So, people already can’t drive, and are (in my area of The U.S) Illegally using Cell Phones & Devices while driving. Now, they give them something else to “Distract them, and quite possibly cause crashes”?

    “This Track was a BANGER”.

I recently started making music again and I guess the quality improved a lot! I want to go a new route and focus in quality instead of quantity. Also I would like to collect backend royalties by registering with GEMA in Germany, where I will have to register all of my work.

    Hi mark
    1) Focusing on quality over quantity is probably one of the ONLY ways a person will survive in these very chaotic times!

    2) Since you are now with a PRO, you will also have a Representative, or people that are assigned to answer these questions; and help you to best register your new & old music.

I’m not sure about how GEMA does it (I’m in The States, and all is see is their collections on my quarterly statements)
So, I’m not sure if you can just give them a call; or even better I would send them a email (that way you have recorded a document) Let them know all the particulars, and they will get back to you.

The biggest distinctions between the 2 “I have noticed” is:

    * Ones function is to house a lot of Music/Audio/Media for its clients to choose from. (This Unfortunately is including Subscription Services)

    * Another’s main function is to locate/find, or have in-house Music/Audio/Media that can be curated and/or searched thru & pitched for a specific request/brief/lead
