Update: Just got my 2014 Q4 statement and was pleasantly surprised!! Last quarter was pathetic (about $15) with a few placements on ReelZ. This time several Discovery royalties appeared and grand total was 10 times that amount!! BTW, the show was Billy Bob’s Gags to Riches. 🙂
daveydadParticipantgreat idea! i loaded several of my tracks and they looked pretty good to me… slight roll-off on low and hi frequency ends.
daveydadParticipantThis is a recent placement. Pretty cool use. Only wish I knew what they were saying! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZMZwsyLA2Q
daveydadParticipantSo when using a spectrum analyzer, what should you look for in what you see?
daveydadParticipantGreat thread!! I kind of chuckled when I saw this post… but I’m in the same boat. My wife often listens to what I compose and says…”turn down the bells!” or “that piano note is too harsh!” Anything above 2k I have a hard time hearing in the full mix, even with headphones. I guess I need to learn how to use a spectrum analyzer. Any good YouTube videos out there to help?
daveydadParticipantAnyone else get the update from them about changes? What does it mean?

daveydadParticipantI use 44/16 but more libraries are requesting 48/16; even had one wanting 96/24 with no mastering applied.
I usually register my songs on BMI in small groups as I compose.
I tend to keep the volume the same on “less” mixes; they should sound quieter anyway, I suppose.
Seems like most libraries I’ve dealt with adjust the gain themselves.
My .02 🙂

But this was my second. This Piggy Paint commercial ran for a limited time in a few major US cities. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6W6GDoidKtw

I had two ambient tracks used in an underwater series up in Canada but was never told how to contact anyone to be able to see them.

May 13, 2015 at 6:51 am in reply to: How long did it take you before you got your first placement? #21661daveydadParticipantMy first “big” placement was through FMN about 6 months after starting. A jazzy/blues piano piece was used in a company video for Kaiser Permanente out on the west coast.
daveydadParticipantI tend to shy away from string solo stuff. Would much rather use a nice oboe or french horn. Really like what I hear from 8Dio… pricey!
daveydadParticipantI’m in the market also for a better string/orchestral library. All I have now is Garritan Instant Orchestra, Komplete 10 and a few patches in Omnisphere. They work well but I still sometimes get feedback that particularly solo strings still sound a little fake. So, I see that LASS gets the top vote for strings on this site but they’ve been around a while and won awards back in 2011. Would you all still say they are the best? The full version is on sale right now, but, yikes!, at $799 is still pricey. So I want to make sure. Thanks!!
