With Spotify you’re talking a low $.005 per stream, at best. I have a dozen albums on there and am slowly, very slowly, seeing my revenue increase. I have 3 tracks on playlists that are getting several hundred streams per day; one just hit 11,000 streams. My revenue comes in thru CD Baby… I’m making, hmm, maybe $10-$15/month now. Pandora is doing much better for me.
daveydadParticipantOnly been doing this since 2014 and had the largest payout so far on my last BMI statement. $120 for 53 seconds of a track used in prime time on a Discovery show back in summer 2016 called Dual Survival.
daveydadParticipantThis was for an album of 10-12 instrumental tracks. I’ve decided to pass on it. Thanks for the feedback!
daveydadParticipantI found the answer to my question. I forgot CD Baby informed us about this a while back.
How does royalty collection work with Pandora and Sound Exchange?
February 02, 2017 11:51There are two scenarios that will affect your revenue collection through Pandora and CD Baby.
If your music is currently available on Pandora’s service, and CD Baby has NOT delivered it there, then you will be paid for those radio streams via SoundExchange like you always have been.
Once CD Baby has delivered your music to Pandora, CD Baby will begin collecting the LABEL SHARE of both subscription and advertising revenue and paying you directly. You will continue to collect the performing artist share of your royalties directly through Sound Exchange. You can get more info on how that works here:

daveydadParticipantHere’s what they state. Yes, they are in the UK.
In return the A&R Team will make suggestions for the required improvement, if any, to the track’s arrangement, editing, length and production for optimum placing possibility. In return the A&R team will also attempt to place the track with a music publisher.daveydadParticipantI’ve been distributing a lot (but not all) of my music for several years via CD Baby. They do a great job. iTunes downloads are not as frequent as 2 years ago but I’m slowly seeing more revenue from streams on Spotify and other places, although it’s barely enough each month to buy a steak dinner. I do have a few exclusive tracks on some albums but only after getting permission from the library folks. Most won’t let you. CD Baby takes care of the publisher side unless you want something different.
daveydadParticipantYes, when I started, I probably had 100-200 tracks circulating among libraries.
daveydadParticipantMy first BMI statement for 3rd quarter of 2013 was a humbling $14; all online radio royalties. Last year I averaged $300-$400 per quarter. Still not where I want to be but at least it’s going up slowly.
daveydadParticipantProbably not uncommon. This business seems to be a waiting game. I’m slowly getting used to that. I only get backend payment for cues used in a foreign soap opera once a year.
daveydadParticipantWell, I asked around and no library I belong to placed this. So who knows how they got ahold of it. Hope they rerun it to death!
daveydadParticipantSo I have the free 50 track account and wondered if upgrading to their monthly $35 plan (US only) means I can upload an additional 50 tracks??
daveydadParticipantnope. no rf sale that i know of
daveydadParticipantReally?? So will this mistake be corrected eventually or is it my gain?
daveydadParticipantRight, but if all my placements come from some library getting them placed, how come on the 200% they aren’t keeping their share? That was a Discovery Channel placement.
daveydadParticipantNice report! How long have you been doing this?
