    Good point Brian!

I always ask the libraries I’m with if it’s ok to use some of my signed work for self promotion of myself to other libraries, and they’re fine with that.

I’ve joined my first two exclusive libraries in the last 6 months, and signed an album up with each. I agree with soundroad, it’s very useful to know who’s bothering to listen, and who isn’t. Amazing you got a response from Warner soundroad! Did they pick up your material?

Thanks Janet. I’m considering LA in December, or maybe that one in NY as well or instead.

Nice work Eric. Had a listen to a few tracks there, Favourite was the Opus 104 at the top. I take it you’ve recorded a live chamber group for that one – otherwise what Orchestral library do I need to buy, and well done on the expressive nuancing.

Over the last few days, I’ve been reading many posts here on MLR and elsewhere, and there were people saying back in 2013 that the sync music market is saturated, that there’s no money to be made. 6 years on and guess what – there’s still new composers cropping up and existing ones selling music. Somebody in the future is going to be responsible for providing the cues for video games, commercials, TV progs, films etc. As long as what we do is in demand, useable, and put under the noses of the right libraries and supervisors, there’s no reason why that can’t be us.
    Happy New Year folks!.

That’s a useful tip Beatslinger – thanks. The only thing I would say is that if the industry is changing so rapidly, are the threads, a considerable number of which date back 9 years, going to offer any insight?

I suppose in effect Songtradr does this.

I’ve got this, It’s a very useful program and Adi is super helpful. All I have to do is get my material past their somewhat strict selection process now lol.

Hi jdt. Thank you very much for this really useful critique, and for your kind words as well, especially on theme – although it seems that themes seem out of fashion at the moment – maybe I’m wrong.
I think I will probably keep the track as is, but also take your advice and produce 2 independent compositions from it drawing on the elements you suggest.

Should I continue throwing these pieces up on pond5 and songtradr and hope for the best? Or is there a particular type of library that is more receptive to this genre than others? That’s the quandry I guess most of us have.
[apologies admin – I seem to have posted twice!]

Thanks for this really useful critique.
I get what you mean at 0:47. Could it be that instead it needs building up at that point, to fit in with your ‘keep building’ concept?
Also, you’re the second person to say there is more than one track in there lol – I have taken that on board too. He said the beat in the middle, if I was going to do it at all, should feature earlier.
This track actually came about after someone here suggested to go to and listen to higher end library stuff and try to examine and copy the structure and various aspects of a track – but obviously come up with my own ideas. That was a track listed under ‘Drama’.

I also get that this piece wouldn’t work as an underscore to a documentary as it’s too thematic.
How can I tell what there is a market for, and write accordingly?
I’ve fired out about 30 or so tracks plus edits so far onto pond5 and songtradr, and have managed to sell 1 track on pond5 and get one shortlisted on songtradr, but I’ve been writing purely for pleasure and I now need to somehow get a grasp of what’s required, in what genre, and which libraries will be receptive to a given genre.

Thanks again Allan. These are useful tips, especially on the happier and energetic music selling better.

Thanks. That’s kind of what I’ve being doing, but am open to any other ideas.
