Desire_InspiresParticipant
Ok. The deal sounds good but may not be right for you at this time. Good luck.
Desire_InspiresParticipantWhat seems to be the issue?
Desire_InspiresParticipantI guess I still do not get the race to the bottom argument. I think that composers should sell at whatever price they feel comfortable with, including giving away free music. It is an individual choice.
I would love to sell a license for one track a month for $10,000. That is not likely. So if I settle for selling licenses for 100 tracks a month at $100 each, am I devaluing music? What works for me is going to be different than what works for someone else.
I think composers should absolutely charge as much as they can get. But at the same time, I do not think it is necessary to make composers feel guilty for selling their music cheaply. Perhaps selling a lot of tracks at a lower price is a greater reward than selling a few tracks at a high price.
Is music still fun, or is it all business? It is a mixture of both for me. I am always seeking ways to make more from my music, but I am not obsessed with it. That obsession was something I struggled with for a while. I just had to take a breather and stopped comparing myself to everyone else. Things will be okay in the end. Music is still loved by most people in the world.
Desire_InspiresParticipantDon’t worry about the race. Keep writing, make money, and have fun!
Desire_InspiresParticipantStart with what you got and keep creating and submitting new music.
Desire_InspiresParticipantI really do not see the value in this service.
Desire_InspiresParticipantI have a quick question: Do music libraries provide many licenses to TV commercials? It seems like most of that music is just used as background music for TV shows.
Desire_InspiresParticipantSo Art, did you receive any PRO royalties from the use of your song? If so, that would be a justifiable reason to track down the end user of a piece of music.
Desire_InspiresParticipantThey pay their editors many times more an hour than what they are paying to license one cue so if you were the client would you want you employes to waste time on dealing with composers? They are paying the library for the legal liability ex that there is no copyright infringements, no mystery writers, no samples just ripped from a Snoop Dog album.
I never thought of it that way. I guess that contacting a client of a library could be viewed as unprofessional. Even a legitimate request could be viewed as being demanding. There is definitely some risk involved.
Desire_InspiresParticipantThat sounds about right. I make the majority of my royalties through one library. I have music in about 10 total, but only one provides the bulk of my royalties.
For now, I am going to take a huge risk and put all of my eggs in one basket. I am going to submit about 30 cues to this one site. I know that I should diversify my catalog and spread my music. But I have a hard time submitting more music to companies that have only provided small trickles of income.
I have pretty much given up on submitting to new companies. I cannot lay blame to other companies. I do not know why I not getting placements from some of the other companies I am with. But I just do not feel comfortable sending in more music.
Desire_InspiresParticipantThis forum is a great place to read up on libraries. I will not suggest any, but there are a few great companies, some good companies, and a lot of mediocre to non-productive companies. It does take serious work to find out which companies may work. But oncthou can get in with the great or good companies, stick with them
Desire_InspiresParticipantForget what happened. Focus on what you can do to make things better now. The music library world is strange. But there is money to be made. Focus on the companies that can help to make you money and leave the other companies alone. There is no need to give up. That will only guarantee failure.
Like the old saying goes: Do what you love, but always follow the money.
Desire_InspiresParticipantI think I know what company you are referring to.
This deal is not the best, but it is far from the worst. I actually would choose this deal since it is non-exclusive. I would choose it because I know that receiving license fees is highly unlikely anyway.
This company does blanket licenses for almost all of their deals.
Desire_InspiresParticipantHey Cruciform and Playagibson. Good to see you guys outside of the usual hangout spot. 🙂
Desire_InspiresParticipantI found out about how Tunesat helped a music library to get a 1000% return on investment. Apparently the German PRO (GEMA) used data from Tunesat to help make a big payout to a library/publisher.
