Michael:
I’ve done well on both. I think some of the higher-end libraries have a loyal clientele that does not want to shop around and try to find a cheaper price. They have a larger budget, and are satisfied with what they get from the sites.IMHOSeptember 27, 2013 at 12:09 pm in reply to: Question about your tracks on different royalty free websites #12684GaryWParticipantMichaelL:
I’m sure that happens, but most of my RF tracks are priced about the same on most of the sites. Only a couple have higher prices that are set by the libraries.September 27, 2013 at 8:58 am in reply to: Question about your tracks on different royalty free websites #12675GaryWParticipantI have 8 RF sites that I upload tracks to regularly. I use the same title description, and tags for each of them. I also have all of my tracks up on Soundcloud as well. It’s helped me get into a few libraries. The tracks on SC are for listening only, not for download. I also have a website, and on one of my pages I have links to the libraries.
GaryWParticipantFinally upgraded to Logic Pro X a couple of days ago. After a day or so of getting to know it, I have to say I am impressed. I’ve been a Logic user for a little over 4 years, and the new look of Logic X finally makes you feel like you are using a more modern DAW . No more of that “dodgy grey” look to it.
Navigating is easy. The stock plug-ins are about the same as well as the Apple Loops. Since it does not take 32-bit plug-ins, I have had to rethink some things, but I can still use Additive Drums, as well as EX-Drummer. I use live guitar, bass, and keys, so it is not that big of an issue for me.
The Drummer addition is great in Pro X, although you have to download about 10GB of additional data to get all of the drummer options. I’ll do that when I have some downtime.
Did my first track on LX today, and am very happy with the results.
There are a few small glitches, but I am sure they will get figured out.
So far so good. Keep you posted.
GaryWParticipantI’ve been checking all day, and looks like it has not been posted. But I did get my payment from them this morning
GaryWParticipantI average about 2-3 per week. Depending on how the creative juices are flowing….
GaryWParticipantI do the same. Something very catchy, or a pun on the genre of the track
GaryWParticipantVery interesting ideas. I never check, or do a mono mix. Since many of my tracks are basic guitar, bass, drums, keys, etc. I like to layer my guitar parts and if the track needs it I will use 3 or 4 guitars ( either acoustic or electric) sometimes more and pan those to stay out of the way of each other. Along with using EQ as well.
I Want to try to hear each part and give every instrument their space. Lead instruments always go front and center as well as drums. I always visualize my track from watching a band on stage.Orchestral tracks I pan as an orchestra would be set up. Basses and Cellos right, Violins and Violas left etc. IMHO….
BTW my average song is between 10-12 tracks total….
Been working for me so far….as always IMHO.GaryWParticipantWell put justincrosby I do agree. I have been at this for a little over 3 years, and have just now really started having some financial success. You have to keep writing, try some different things out, and see what works for you. It is a constant learning process. You never know what is going to sell. It may surprise you. As Art said, it is very hard work, but the more you write , the better composer you will become.
GaryWParticipantJD:
Thanks for the heads up on that. Also you must have OS 10.8.4 ( Mountain Lion) to use it. I’ll stick to Logic 9 for the time being….GaryWParticipantMark and Soph:
Thanks. I agree with both of your takes on this. I was just going to post something similar. Yes the debate on what is good and bad music could go on forever……and the way things “should” be. It is what it is now, and I am happy to be able to have all of the resources available now to be able to write, record, and sell tracks. And make money doing it.GaryWParticipantMichael:
Agreed. Sometimes these guys really get under my skin. Happy with what I am doing…GaryWParticipantMr. Composer:
Congratulation on your successes
Quite frankly I find your attitude quite snobbish, and elitist. But with your success I suppose you can afford be that way
Yes I am one of those people your have “sympathy for” that is just starting out ( 3 years now) and depend mostly RF sites to sell my music. And I appreciate your best wishes.
I have done quite well thank you, and I will keep writing 2 or 3 tracks a week to pile on the “dung heap” as you call it.
Maybe someday when I have the success that you and others have had I can be like you and look down my nose at all of us composers who sometimes use loops and samples which of course “anyone can do”
IMHOGaryWParticipantChuck:
I am a relative newbie as well, as I have been doding the music library thing for 3 years.
Things work very differently from composer to composer.“standard submission strategy for us newcomers is to shotgun out to as many non-exclusive libraries as possible and see what sticks. Keep working on the craft”
I agree with that completely. I started out with 30 tracks 3 years ago and now have close to 400 in my catalog. Keep writing, honing your skills and submitting tracks.
As far as libraries to recommend, that too will vary from composer to composer.
GaryWParticipantBig time problems downloading and getting the bundled software and getting the presets to work. Fortunately I have enough soft synths to work with already so it’s not a big issue. But a glitch. Anyone else having this problem?
