Art:
Just got mine yesterday, and I really like it. Haven’t quite finished downloading the bundled software, but tried it with what I have, and had no tracking problems, or latency problems. Installation of the hardware unit was simple as well.
Very coolGaryWParticipantI had a mere 30 or so tracks whenI started submitting to libraries 3 years ago. I now have close to 350 full-length tracks in my catalog. As you will hear many say, it is a numbers game.
Keep writing as much as you can with still trying to keep the quality up. You will be surprised on how fast your catalog will grow.
If you can, try different genres as well, but keep it real. I’ve learned that as well…..
Good luck to you!
GaryWParticipantOrdered my Triple Play yesterday, and should have it by the weekend.
GaryWParticipantMore info in the Triple Play. I know a couple of people at Fishman and have been following the development of the TP. It was first shown at Winter NAMM 2011, and was still in beta-testing.
Fishman has spent a lot of time beta-testing this unit almost 2-3 years, and Jon Mclaughlin was part of the team testing it.
They really took their time with this, which would make me trust getting one. I’ve seen it demoed live as well, and it is very accurate and the sounds are very good. As with anything new there is a learning curve with it.
GaryWParticipantGreg:
Been thinking about getting a Triple Play myself, but wanted to wait to see what kind of feedback it was getting from users. On your track, I’m not too crazy about the Piano sound, but the Violin sounds good. Thanks for posting it.GaryWParticipantI have my entire catalog up on SoundCloud, and it has worked very well in a couple new libraries finding me, or for them to listen to tracks to get an idea of what I do. Most, however, want you to submit tracks to them via their library to audition. I have had over 18,000 plays on SoundClound in the 3 years I have been on.
GaryWParticipantHis contribution to music was immense. RIP-Phil
GaryWParticipantHey #tag
I have kind of been on and off with Twitter lately. A few months ago I was following people to get followed,(only ended up with around 400) and posted a link to Soundcloud everytime I wrote a new track. It did get traffic to Soundcloud. I have been on Soundcloud for exactly 3 years now and have over 350 tracks on there, and have had over 17,500 plays. I have to think some of those translated into sales through various libraries. If I am looking to get into a new library to have them hear my tracks I direct them to Soundcloud via my website. So I may get back on Twitter one of the days, just to keep my name out there. And of course I do not allow downloads from Soundcloud… Hope that helps…GaryWParticipantI have all of my tracks at Pond 5 as mp3’s @ 256kbps. Over 300 tracks. Never had any problems, and they are on of my best selling libraries. Had some problems when I first went on there uploading at 16/44 wave files, so I went to mp3.
GaryWParticipantLog into your account, and click on the “Vendor tab” Then click on Artist Administration, click Reports, then Play History. That will give you info on individual track plays for any given time period.
GaryWParticipantWelcome!. This site is going to be an invaluable resource for you just starting as it was for me starting out.
As far as song length, I write all full-length tracks, no alts. I’ve learned that my best selling tracks are between 2:00 and 2:30, so I now write to that time length.
Also remember to not use fade-outs a good hard ending is best. IMHO
Good luck to you!GaryWParticipantI received my first ever royalty check in January. It was a nice surprise from BMI
GaryWParticipantFirst off, kudos to Mark for posting this. I have had the opportunity over the past few months to be mentored, if you will, by a friend of mine who runs a music library. He’s given be a look “behind the scenes” on the approval process and what Mark has written is spot-on.
I’ve learned a lot by listening to what is out there in certain genres both good and bad, and has changed the way I am writing to the extent of does this track sound as good, or better than what is out there? And it has made me focus more on the genres that I can do well, which are more guitar oriented tracks. I still like to experiment with different styles, but unless I can make it sound real I stay away from it.
Only been at this close to 3 years, so I am continually learning, writing, and trying to get better. And taking rejections better………..
GaryWParticipantI work on one track at a time, and am averaging about 2-3 new tracks per week. Like Art I do admin stuff in the morning and spend about 3-4 hours working on tracks in the afternoon. I’ve also started to not record and mix the same day. After hours for recording I find I get ear fatigue from wearing phones, and like to start with a fresh set of ears the next day for mixing and mastering.
GaryWParticipantI have been using EZ Drummer for years. It’s great but I agree with some of the others that it is hard to fit in the mix. I am using Logic and as Kenny said they have some great kits in the Ultrabeat drum sampler, and well as in Logic itself. I am going to check out Addictive one of these days as well. Heard very good things about it.
