OverDubParticipant
I use “Switch” everyday, and love it. Goes to show you, what works for one, doesn’t for another!
OverDubParticipantSounds great. Great tones. I like the 2nd ending. You could also add some percussion (or drums) and stretch it out, build the back half up a bit. Most libraries like a track that builds from what I’ve seen. You can always do a mix without them. Great work!
OverDubParticipantThanks for the heads up, just downloaded it. Hard to beat for free!

OverDubParticipantHas anyone done their own Source Audio site just for their own music? Can clients license directly through SA? Do you get paid through SA? Can clients search the whole SA catalog? Just wondering. I was thinking it would be good to have my own library for my genre specific music. Don’t see where it’d be worth it to develop your own site, except to get traffic to a SA site.
OverDubParticipantI’ve had some foreign uses show up on the free account.
OverDubParticipantArt, did you get placements through submitting to their requests or just submitting a bunch of stuff into their catalog? Thanks!
OverDubParticipantGreat. Thanks for the info!
OverDubParticipantThanks Michael. They told me what they were looking for, and chose a few I had online. Do the libraries you work with take everything you send, in repsonse to the briefs? Do you send stems and all, before they decide? Been doing TV music for a few years, this is my first WFH deal. Nothing feels fishy, just wondering what the norm was. Thanks!
OverDubParticipantI think if you are talking about BG TV cues, I try to not have more than a few hours into each piece. These are not trailer pieces, just cues around 2 mins long. Rock, country, bluegrass, etc. I am a full time musician, but a part time composer. I shoot for one 2 min cue a day (5 a week). I usually have 1-2 hours in each one. That way if it’s a work for hire for $100 (not as often as I’d like), I’m making $50 an hour or more, plus back end. Some cues that have taken 3 or 4 hours haven’t made a dime, while ones that took 30 minutes have made a few thousand dollars! I think most full time library writers would say you need 500-1000 cues to make a decent living, I think that’s on par with my income. I’m at around 180 cues right now, I was at around 100 9 months ago. The way things look right now, I’ll hopefully average $10,000-$15,000 this year. If I was writing full time, I’d be aiming for 3 cues a day. (Around 750) a year! I’m shooting for 250 this year at my 5 cue a week pace. Hope that helps!
OverDubParticipantScary Stuff. Maybe it’s better not knowing what’s going on behind the curtain! They’ve been great for me, and maybe there is a good explanation. At least I hope.
OverDubParticipantI’ve been thinking of doing the same. Maybe doing a few cd’s worth and pitching a whole cd of a certain genre to different libraries. Would love to hear anyone’s thoughts as well. Thanks for starting this thread!
OverDubParticipantI’ve never been asked NOT to send new tracks to a NE library. Maybe my genres aren’t well represented? Maybe your NE libraries already have a lot of your style cues? Have you tried any Exclusives? I’m in a few libraries that started out as NE but went Exclusive, and they always took whatever I sent, and still do. Might be time to submit to some exclusives, who don’t have a lot of the styles that you do. Best of luck!
