Both of the books you mentioned are fantastic. They are also quite different from each other which I find to be a great thing. I’ve been through both several times and still consider them top level reading material. Another book I like a lot is “Hitmen” by Frederic Dannen. Talks about a lot of the scandals that have gone down in the music business over the past 50 or so years. Good knowledge to have.
As for the music library business though – there’s so much information on THIS site.
yzzman1ParticipantReally curious to see how this turns out….could be a very important step in improving this ongoing problem.
yzzman1ParticipantI’ve noticed similar problems. I do like the service but I kind of agree that it’s a little pricey for something that is currently not as accurate as I’d hope. Here’s to hoping there are large improvements in the future. Really not bashing them – just saying how it is.
yzzman1ParticipantI’ve actually have things like that happen too! I have some tracks that I am not particularly fond of. I mean they are usable but just not my favorite work I’ve done creatively. Then go figure – sometimes they sell – multiple times. I “think” the key is to keep striving for the best quality of work we can put forward – always. But to be careful what you decide throw away.
yzzman1ParticipantThis is a great topic. Interesting to see the subtle differences in how people work. I write and record 5 cues or so one at a time. I then send them to my business partner who mixes and masters them. While he is doing that I switch to admin mode and do descriptions, tags and registrations. When I get the final mix I change or add anything in the descriptieft affected by the mix. Then I handle uploads and delivering the music to the various libraries I work with. Then it’s back to creative mode all over again.
yzzman1ParticipantDon’t have issues with the Hollywood libraries on my mac – I don’t use a pc though so I can’t chime in on if it functions better on pc.
yzzman1ParticipantThis is of course my opinion only – but I have both EWSO and East West’s Hollywood Strings and Brass Collections. (don’t have Hollywood Orchestral Woodwinds yet). I use their Hollywood software libraries a lot more than East West Symphonic Orchestra. That may just be me though. There is of course a difference in pricing – and if you get EWSO you will surely not be disappointed in it’s quality. It’s very good. Does require an iLok key though.

yzzman1ParticipantIt’s funny because I just called ASCAP yesterday because I have that exact same issue. For me, I’m waiting for a cue sheet to be filed by CNN for a performance that would be paid in the upcoming writer and publisher distributions. The network is saying it will be filed soon but perhaps will not meet the deadline to be included in the upcoming ASCAP distributions. ASCAP told me that as long as they receive the cue sheet within a year of the scheduled distribution that they will process it retroactively on the next scheduled distribution. This of course includes the fact that any paid ASCAP performance has to show up on their surveys.
Hope my response was helpful.
