Is it generally an ok idea to start pitching while youโre still finding your groove,
If you are unsure I would listen to the music on some sites. If you feel you are in the ballpark I would go for it.
As for blackballing: I wouldn’t worry about it. If you have music that a library is interested and you are a reasonable person to work with, I don’t think it would be a problem.
Art MunsonKeymasterMy experience with Folktronica wasn’t great. The style sounds similar to yours, finger picking with electronic elements. Truth is I don’t really know what Folktronica is, I just assumed it was. I pitched it to a number of libraries with no interest except for one but I didn’t like the exclusive deal offered.
They have sold on P5 but I actually remixed some them without the electronic elements and they sell better. That’s just my experience though and YMMV.

Art MunsonKeymasterComing from a non-exclusive library to another non-exclusive library, probably not. If coming from on exclusive library (or non-exclusive) to an exclusive, then it would depend on the terms in the contracts of the exclusive libraries.
Art MunsonKeymasterI still seek other sources of income outside of music licensing and music royalties. I eternally do not trust this business as a stable long term path to earning full time income year after year. I always operate as if it’s going to implode and always have a plan B in play.
Yep!
Art MunsonKeymasterGood topic JD and know exactly how you feel. I have many of the same thoughts.
What may help you, and is true in my experience, is that you could give your “secrets” away (to a point) and there is no guarantee that any of the composers you shared your “secrets” with, would achieve the same results (most likely they would not). There is no one size fits all approach to this frustrating business. I don’t think you have to be that paranoid about it.
Art MunsonKeymasterAre you for a long time with TuneSat?
Over ten years.
Art MunsonKeymasterNo, they do not register with Content ID.
Art MunsonKeymasterThe only thing that saved us was the payout for a commercial that ran constantly for a year. That ended in December so I imagine a few quarters we will see a sharper decline.
Art MunsonKeymasterMine was down from last quarter but up from the quarter before that.
Art MunsonKeymasterI have always voted against “Pay To Play” type services.
Art MunsonKeymaster@RobertJ6401 I just checked in a private window on Firefox and I see the x to dismiss. The windows go away after, for good, after 2 popups.
Please try clearing your browser’s cache and history for musiclibraryreport.com or try another browser. You could also try using a “Private” window or “Incognito mode” in your browser. See this link if you are not sure on how to do that https://www.howtogeek.com/269265/how-to-enable-private-browsing-on-any-web-browser/. If you still have problems please let me know.
Art MunsonKeymasterI submit as soon as it’s detected.
