Quick question about PRS, UK and BMI. I’m in a UK library, and they registered my songs last May with PRS. It still isn’t showing up on my BMI account. The library owner says that he can’t register the songs with BMI. He said that PRS is affiliated with BMI and they will pass on the information. Well, it’s been about 9 months now, and still no registration with BMI. Is this normal? Emailing BMI is an act of futility, as they have never gotten back to me before. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks!

Are these vocal songs or instrumentals that you submitted?
It seems they prefer vocal songs?

Alan, I have never had that happen. Seems there might be a hiccup somewhere?

I just finished my site with composrspace. Great price and great support! I had a question, and Scott called me to help me work it out. It’s relatively strait forward and easy to work with, and I think it looks good. Highly recommend!

    Here is the site.

My old business partner had to give back $60,000 from overpayments with ASCAP with Muzak royalties. It was spread out over several payouts, but it did happen. I guess it’s kind of like the IRS, they will find you eventually!

An old song from 2014 brought in about $350. And finally two exclusives from MIBE finally came through. One was an NFL game that brought in about $350 too.

Also, the statement and payment came out yesterday, which was kind of strange…

I had a song for the promo for American Pickers a couple years ago for their Christmas special, that was played all the time. No money for that. When I first started, I had a song on the Walking Dead first season, behind the scenes. Played for 1:03. Then I found out you don’t get any royalties for dvd’s. Yes, it sucks! How many dvd’s did that sell?!!

    Gale,

I’m in the same position as you. I own a large recording studio in Seattle, http://www.elliottbayrecording.com and work on my own music on the down times. I’m a horn player (sax and trumpet) and can manage on the guitar, bass and keys. So, a lot of my stuff is horn section based! I usually do the real instruments in my songs. I have friends who come in and lay down some drum tracks and I cut them up in to 4 and 8 bar loops. That works better for me than the sample loop stuff. Sometimes the whole drum track will be good, and I’ll use that. I haven’t delved in to the sample horn stuff, as for me there is no need. It does take longer to do 12-16 tracks of the real thing though! Good luck.

    Scott
