ENW1Participant
daveydad: Does your Pandora income pay through CD baby as well? Thanks.
ENW1ParticipantI put tracks in Libraries where I get sales. If a Library is unproductive, I stop sending tracks. I don’t necessarily dump the Library. I just stop feeding it. I still believe that Libs. that don’t actively create income, guarantee their own demise. We stop providing the content they need.
ENW1ParticipantInteresting. Has anybody tried creating a pseudonym at ASCAP?
ENW1ParticipantI got several letters from Music Reports too. Can’t remember all the clients (Amazon, iTunes, Soundcloud, & somebody else). I assumed it was a result of the Spotify Suit. Everybody wants to be more cautious. At least Music Reports got all the info. (titles, etc.) correct. The Harry Fox Spotify licenses were so flawed it looked like they were deliberately sending misinformation.
ENW1ParticipantPerfect. Thanks, Lee.
ENW1ParticipantThanks for the response Lee. Is there any way to figure out Spotify’s sources for the tracks? The Harry Fox Notices of Compulsory License I received are full of mistakes. One of them is for a tune I didn’t write. I’d like to be sure that the royalties go where they should. Spotify seems to be chaotic.
Thanks,
ENW1ENW1ParticipantProtools has a “Loop Playback” Option to check the loop. I also sometimes put a tiny fade-in to make the start less jarring. I assume they want continuous repeating play, as if the band’s just vamping. No silence at the beginning or end.
ENW1ParticipantMaybe things are sloooowly getting better. Spotify just settled a Class Action suit. ASCAP just got YouTube into an agreement. If Fair Pay ever gets passed, we might make a few more pennies. It’s a move in the right direction.
ENW1ParticipantDitto Pat: I’ve received 4-5 Harry Fox notices for Spotify. They seem to be filled with mistakes. The last one had a song that I didn’t write with a band I never heard of but I’m listed as the copyright owner.
ENW1ParticipantI’m in a half-dozen libraries. Two make regular sales. The rest are a waste of time. I upload to the profitable libraries and ignore the losers. I’m constantly searching for new libraries to replace my unproductive libraries. The process is painfully slow. It takes forever to see if they get results. Clearly, a lot of these libraries are not well run & don’t seem to do a lot business, regardless of their catalogues. Determining which ones are productive is the Holy Grail.
ENW1ParticipantThanks, Pat. Good to know. I’ll email HF again and see if I can figure this out.
ENW1ParticipantToday, I received another Harry Fox “Notice of Intention to Obtain a Compulsory License for Making /Distributing Phonorecords”. Licensee is Spotify. The Label Name is Haley Shaw (okay). The Recording Artist is listed as Haley Shaw. No, I’m the correct Recording Artist. Anybody know anything about Haley Shaw? She seems to have an online presence as a composer. Thanks.
ENW1ParticipantI got claims from AdRev when they first came out. This was on my own videos with my own music (really?). I also got a ton of emails soliciting me to use their service. It kinda felt like a shakedown. (Gangster voice) “Dat’s a nice little business youss got der. It’d be a shame if sumthin’ happened to it.” Kinda turned me off to their service.
I challenged all the claims on YouTube & they just went away. However, I do know a director/producer who still complains about claims he gets from library music on his YouTube videos. He’s paid for the tracks. He doesn’t want any type of hassle. I know copyright claims are different from AdRev ads but I figure I have better things to do than dance around with AdRev.

ENW1ParticipantI received the exact same Harry Fox notice a week ago. I emailed them for more details but they didn’t have much info. to offer.
