ChuckMottParticipant
PAolo, good point. That is definitely worth looking into.
Dennis, I’ve been checking out his free youtube videos. I set up recording templates like a console so is probably how I mix anyway. I would say he is probably on my very short list, competing with the puremix guys at this point. I wasn’t aware he also did paid subscriptions. Thanks for the heads up on that.
ChuckMottParticipantFor what it’s worth, EW Composer Cloud did away with that 2 tier subscription service, so now you can access all their libraries( the gold versions), including Hollywood Strings, for the $30 a month price point. Which made it kind of a no brainer for me.
ChuckMottParticipantAbsolutely, throw it up wherever with remix/alternate/variation in the title.

ChuckMottParticipantNo, Pond 5 is probably my selling site as far as number of sales. Might even outperform several NE and Exc. sites. But I do believe quality matters there as well. Which isn’t the same thing as saying they only carry quality tracks.
ChuckMottParticipantMy rule of thumb comes from a video I saw on Christopher Beck, who wrote the music for Frozen. He aims for 2 minutes of music in an eight hour day, you’re talking movie soundtrack/trailer quality. In doing that, I don’t think (don’t quote me though) that he mixes this stuff in isolation. So after creating edits, mixing, uploading to libraries, probably 12 hours per track. And no, I totally lose my objectivity if I completely finish the track in one day. If you are a one man show like many (most) of us are, you have to to make a lot of spot decisions that maybe in a large scale environment you have a team making. And I suspect many of these 2-3 tracks a day guys are doing simple instrumentation tracks, 2-3 instruments, and very short. So if I was a fulltimer, 6 days a week, I would shoot for 3. With a full time day job, I try for one.
ChuckMottParticipant10 was what I was thinking. In 2 libraries if I have my way about it. 10-12 was the number I thought I had seen thrown around before.
ChuckMottParticipantI like the ideas you have going here. The post rock Explosions In The Sky sorts of stuff in general goes well in a lot of libraries. Listen to some of their stuff (sounds like you already do) and maybe go over to KPM and put explosions In The Sky in a search engine and do an honest appraisal of your own stuff. MIBE is often looking for this sort of stuff but they are exclusive now. You are right there, I think, as far as nailing the vibe but, not unlike many of us, the production to my ears is a little short and some of the compositional ideas you have are good, some sound more like noodling. I say this stuff because I hear you, with a bit more focus, really nailing this stuff. But definitely time to start setting your sights higher then AJ. My 2 cents. I’ve sold some of this type of stuff in both AS and P5. Not sure where you are at in knowing the difference between royalty free, nonexclusive and exclusive, if you are not sure then bone up on those too so you have a better idea which sorts of libraries you want to send them to. Good luck!
ChuckMottParticipantIs a long road. How log have you been doing it for? Why the discouragement? Would maybe be more helpful if you had links to your music.
ChuckMottParticipantThank you. with emL but will look into Black Toast.
ChuckMottParticipantThere is nothing saying you can’t take your music that you enjoy, and selling it via album through maybe cdbaby or one of those outlets. To do that doesn’t necessarily mean you get wrapped up in content id as you can opt out of that option. For some there’s a fair amount of crossover….solo piano music , acoustic music, ambient sorts of stuff, and you can still sell it in the library world. There are a fair amount of composers who do that, some of who are members here. Others may be a bit more famous. Keith Kenniff, for example, who acknowledges that his library music and his music as Goldmund, Helios and (with his wife) Mint Julep are entirely different animals. Thanks for posting by the way, as I visited his page (unseen music) this morning and was thrilled to find his made for tv music living beside his more artistic releases. I say write what sells, write what you enjoy and if somewhere along the road those two roads converge, the more power to you. And if you are one of those folks who do not make a living doing this, what is holding you back?
ChuckMottParticipantThe problem I have with not upgrading is that eventually stuff ends up breaking down. Computers wear out, and you are forced to buy another one, probably going with their new OS only to find out that your DAW no longer works with it, you also have to upgrade programs x y and z if you want those to work also. So typically I will upgrade software I care about, as a maintenance issue rater then because I want all the new latest and greatest toys it has to offer. More because I don’t want to be in a position to spend hundreds of dollars on a computer to find I now also have to spend hundreds more upgrading software. Been doing this dance with Pro Tools and Mac forever and it drove me out of recording before. Maybe one good argument for using hardware. On the other hand I know a lot of folks who don’t regularly upgrade that seem to do just fine. Any solutions to this would be welcome, but may be worth another thread.
ChuckMottParticipantI am new to Logic Pro X having made the jump from Pro Tools. The IMac drive I have is pretty small so I am using a wd passport drive for my samples. Technically to get the most I should also have a second drive to store my projects/audio on . Yes it’s recommended to get an external drive and I have no glitches with it.If you don’t already have a quality synth Alchemy alone may be worth the price of admission – or even if you do. But I already own Omnisphere , am starting to get fairly familiar with it, and prefer the sound of it.
ChuckMottParticipantI apparently came across this via AS who distribute to Deezer. Checking off external distribution got me there.
ChuckMottParticipantHmmm….apparently this is associated with a steaming site called Deezer, a new upcoming streaming site. Wondering where this originated from although I do believe I may be able to guess.
