I can’t tell you how many placements that Tunesat has picked up and BMI missed. When I call BMI they basically say thanks for joining and F you.
I was thinking about getting a Source Audio account because they show actual videos of placements, not just audio clips but BMI would still argue that they can’t acknowledge the amount of times a cue was placed. They do the same with Tunesat.

I wish I can give you some inspiration but I don’t know what type of Libs or contracts you are involved with.

I don’t know if that’s the case. It’s sort of confusing because they say when you upload a track, they automatically watermark the track for you, but I see how the pub would not have that data.

What are the most type of shows you see on TV and what music is on them?
I’m not trying to be cryptic or snobby. I just think you should be watching some TV . That was my fastest way of learning what is needed the most and I also listened to how cues should be structured.
Every person would give you a different answer.

I was going to call them in a few minutes.
The problems I’ve had with promos, according to BMI, is that if they have no promo log # , it’s impossible to get info. Soooo frustrating. I may be owed thousands of dollars.
IMO BMI doesn’t want to pay anything unless they have actual documentation from the Sup or production Co. I wouldn’t be surprised if they try not to gather the info. I know I may be a little pessimistic but I’ve had real crappy experiences with BMI.
I will ask SourceAudio a lot of questions regarding this. They claim they can get cue sheets from detections too. Interesting.
I think I may try putting all of my new tracks into SourceAudio.
Not only are they less expensive than Tunesat but they use watermark technology and according to their website, they can actually track a promo and commercials. That’s where I get screwed all the time.

Anyway if it were me, I would politely ask which synth has the fresh sounds they prefer. Another pont. They could mean that they hear the same patch often, meaning “Outdated”. Perhaps you can tweak your favorite patches with some effects. Many times, some synths have too much effects on one patch and you can adjust the parameters. You may also double the lead, pad, etc, using two patches at the same time.
Funny. When Stranger Things was hot, many libs were using that show for examples on their briefs. All 80’s analogue synths. Go figure.
My detections are immediate as well. If you haven’t heard about a previous placement, chances are Tunesat didn’t pick it up.
I have had 30 sec versions and Bed versions picked up.

I have some network , 30 sec promos that I’m trying to chase down. BMI is really not helping me at all.

I’m with BMI and if I recall correctly, I think you are.
If BMI tells me they don’t acknowledge Tunesat, how do I prove my placement if no video is available?
I agree, well worth it. We have two commercials running now that have generated thousands of dollars already (they are still running) and I would have never known about them without Tunesat.
It all really depends if I am writing ITB or if I’m doing all organic instruments with live drums, etc.
If it’s all organic, we are talking longer time for tracking and much longer for mixing.
I can spend 2 hours on just getting my drum kit to punch.
As far as Cable goes, MTV has to be my best payer.
You guys have to know what each library is looking for. Some Libs do a lot of Dramedy and some do Indie Pop, etc.
You guys are also not mentioning if you want to write for royalty free libs or active TV pitching Libs.
There is eventually a need for everything, from Classical piano to Speed Metal. You have to get a general idea of WHO you are pitching to, then send an email or make a call. You can simply ask what do they need.
Diversity is the key. IMO, someone who can write a Folk track and then do a Hip Hop and Epic Orchestra, will get further in the business than someone who does just one genre. Look what happened to Dubstep.
