Thanks for that detailed answer Art.

My only confusion is: “I now reload the final mix and a bed mix into the CUE1-EDITS file making sure it loads in exactly at your first marker” Are you loading the session or the Wav file of the session?

The terminology confusion is “Final mix”. Some people use that term for a final mixed DAW session and some use it for the rendered final Wav..

Sorry for the little mental block 🙂 Or big one for that matter…

I use Sonar myself so there’s some great info you explained!

    Much appreciated….

    Art and Mike,

So you literally open a session with your mastered Wav file and slice it up to form what you want?

Sometimes there’s a confusion between a final stereo mix (Of a DAW session) or the actual rendered Wav.

    Thanks,

I guess every Lib has their own procedures.

Another question. Do libraries that require inst versions, no melody versions, stingers, all of the same song, have to be registered with a PRO. Like even a a 3 second bumber?

    Hey Guys,

It’s a Non-exclusive and the other Non-exclusives do not appear on my catalog at all.

Yes Guscave. They have the same title but their own code.

Interesting conversation guys. One question though. How many libraries are enough 🙂 I know that’s a multi-faceted question but how much time do you find to compose if you are uploading, describing and tagging songs all day?

I am happy with 5 libraries at the moment. I know that is not many but I can’t imagine all of the legwork, with tagging, etc on more libs.

If this were my main job, I guess it would be easier.

OK, so it’s been over 2 weeks that that 2 tracks have been sitting in the Pending Registration que. My Lib said they sent a batch of tracks over to BMI. I only see one in my Catalog.

I have sent email to Register Works days ago and received no answer. I called the office and was told I can only communicate via email.

    Getting a little frustrating!

    Mark,

That’s great info. Thanks for sharing!

Although you don’t do edits, do you use stingers, hits, etc as edit points in your trailers?

I just don’t know if I should use my time uploading tracks to them. I am definately opting out of the PRO money giveaway. Don’t know if my tracks will be deleted.

Maybe I should just save my time and bypass them.

Sorry to hear that Mike. Seems a litle low.

I think they are setting a very poor precident for the future of composers by initiating the PRO money opt out.

    BTW, how recent was this?

    Yes. Thanks Art.

I believe they went through a very recent contract change, like within a week. Although the info is great and informative on those reviews, I was looking to see if anybody has recently signed.

I am up in the air about the option to give up PRO money. It just looks pretty gloomy for the composers when a library advocates that. Just my opinion :-).
