Ah,that’s cool Art.
So Jesse, one of the libraries that might suit you well is Crucial Music.
This non-exclusive library seems to favor vocal tracks.
Still, they need an instrumental version of the tracks too.Another one is MusicSupervisor. Also non-exclusive and the majority of their music requests is for vocal tracks.
Check these 2 and see if they could possibly be a good match to your music.
No one can guarantee you success but maybe these 2 is a good place to start. You could also check for tv series/programs that host music like yours and try to get in touch with the music supervisors of the programs (check the programs’ credits list and find the music supervisor – IMDB could help you too).Music supervisors aren’t the easiest to approach but if you have the RIGHT tracks for them, magic can happen!
Do a lot of research before you submit your music to publishers.
Check their credits’ list, clients, music catalog (if available),their Linkedin and facebook profiles.Hope this helped a bit.
KubedParticipantMan,i don’t think you need any feedback. These are album-ready tracks!
When “Way Down South” hit my earlobe i was looking for a link to buy the album (seriously,if there’s any album link, please share).
I agree with the others,”Roll Into Me”,”Won’t be forgiven” and your overall country/bluesy sound brings in mind the theme songs of True Blood and True Detective tv series.
Many other tv shows are after this sound too.Suggestion: even if you find some music libraries that accept vocal tracks, most probably they’ll ask for the instrumental version as well. So,if you have the recording sessions of your tracks, cut an instrumental version for each track (if you don’t have the recordings make sure to do this in your future works). The instrumentals will, possibly, get a better mileage than vocals on tv and RF market.
There are a couple of libraries that seem to focus on vocal tracks but i can’t post them here i guess (they are included in MLR’s libraries list though).
If you want pm me (here or on Soundcloud). There’s certainly a quite big market for this music sir!
KubedParticipantVery informative stuff, thanks Abby.Taking a look at PPL right now.
KubedParticipantMany companies need Soundalikes or “replacement” tracks and even encourage artists to do these. But at the same time, like MichaelL said, all the contracts clearly state that the composer is responsible for infringement.
Personally i always found soundalikes completely unimaginative and dull.Combine it with a potential lawsuit and it’s a complete waste of time.
If you can write your own music why bother copying someone else?KubedParticipantI also get royalties from BMI for BTN and NBC Sports (Versus) placements.A few dollars for each placement but at least they pay.
Not sure why ASCAP doesn’t collect money from these networks.KubedParticipantBMI member here and i’m only receiving cue sheets for 10-15% of the placements (and payments) i get.
I don’t know why and, honestly,i don’t care much about it anymore.KubedParticipantDoes anyone know if PRS keeps 10% of their non-UK artists’ profits?
That’s what a friend of mine was told recently (he wants to join a PRO and he’s doing a little research).
Anyway,i thought this was odd,for a PRO to ask a cut from artist’s music.KubedParticipantGood one for me,neck to neck with my 2nd best so far.
Happy to see my international royalties are getting better with each quarter!January 13, 2018 at 6:35 am in reply to: Question: Has Anybody/everybody gotten paid from BMI this Quarter? #29215KubedParticipantSame here, got statement and direct deposit yesterday.
December 19, 2017 at 3:41 pm in reply to: Companies that post Wanted lists for Film/TV/Radio? #29072KubedParticipantMusic Xray is a pay to play service that charges you high fees to submit your music to opps ($5-25 for a single track). But that’s not all;you have to pay another $10 for EACH track to get “diagnostics(??!!!)” before you submit it for the first time. But you’re still not ready to submit your music…there’s another $5 “transcation” fee for EACH track you submit because, obviously, they haven’t charged you enough already.
I’m not sure what the free trial membership includes but i doubt you can submit your tracks to their opportunities for free.
Be very cautious with these companies.KubedParticipant“I thought ASCAP was the go to PRO for the US.”
Not sure why you had this impression.Several people left ASCAP to join BMI,according to some posts in the forums.
And SESAC is said to pay better than both ASCAP and BMI (again according to some recent posts in MLR forums). Also,as Beatslinger suggested, some foreign PROs are doing great job too.
PRS (UK) has processed all of my UK placements fast and paid me on time (i’m a BMI member).Personally,if i had to pick a PRO again,it would be among SESAC,PRS and BMI with that particular order.
KubedParticipant@boinkee2000: if you are talking about P5 site, views aren’t accurate. All of my tracks that sold for the first time there had 1 view (in rare occasion 2 views or even 0 views!).
If your track gets more than 1 sell, then somehow the view numbers change to 30,50,100+ etc.
So,i wouldn’t worry much about views there.KubedParticipantCongrats man!The first of anything is a great feeling,as you said.
And it’s a great track,the reverb gives it a warm,”live” feeling.
Hope you get many more sales soon!November 21, 2017 at 10:21 am in reply to: Composing for indie projects – How much to charge? #28894KubedParticipantThank you Michael,i appreciate your help!
KubedParticipantHey guys,i would love to have some tips for a,kind of,WFH project.
A fellow composer had an offer from a new company and wants to know how much he should charge the company for the use of his music.
They picked one of his tracks as the main theme of a new cartoon series.
I know this is quite subjective but any rough estimations would help a lot!Here are the facts;
1) They want to buyout the track and use it exclusively in perpetuity as the main theme of the series.
2) They aim to shop it in some american tv network (big or small,no idea yet).
3) They have 6 episodes ready so far and when/if it is greenlighted they’ll do more.As i said, this is a new company and this is going to be their first project.Still, since they want to use the track as the main theme of the series and want to buyout the copyright,he shouldn’t do it for a few hundreds of dollars i guess…
Any suggestions, rough estimations etc are very welcome.
