KubedParticipant
Thanks buddy!
KubedParticipantNice to hear that!Same story here,1 of my tracks was used widely during summer in the NBA channel.About 2-4 placements daily and each one of them got 1-2 repeats as well.It was used for the after-game commentary i think.
I’m with BMI,we’ll see how it goes.Congrats Alan!
KubedParticipantPretty much the same here,picks up around 2 out of 3 placements.
KubedParticipantHehe,i’m the lucky guy to work with Chuck.
I’m also eager to see how these tracks will perform.
First signs seem very promising anyway,we still get repeated placements from 1 track on Tennis Channel since early April!
According to other MLR members,repeated placements on this network pay very well but better don’t make any assumptions.Since we’re on it,my recent favorite placement was a track used on the 2017 film “Extortion”.I watched the film a few weeks ago and was pleased to see they used my track twice in the movie.The track was actually purchased from AS so,it wasn’t big money but it was my first film placement anyway.Hmm,i hope i’ll see some back end money from tv broadcast in the future…

I think the music business found yet another way to pay less to the artists with Spotify,Pandora and other streaming services and certainly didn’t combat music piracy;
Stream-ripping arises as “most aggressive” type of music piracy

So,it’s not always true that the publishers,who don’t pay for tracks,don’t see any value in them or don’t pitch them aggressively to various opportunities.I’m with 10+ NE libraries because when i started submitting music to companies almost 5 years ago,i didn’t want to do exclusive.
Only 1-2 of them gets me some good placements (in fact,non of the other NE gets me ANY placements).And still 80% of my back-end money comes from the exclusive ones.Tried to ask for some advance fee once and they said no.They certainly didn’t force me to do music for them.
I did an album for an exclusive company with some upfront payment.
The tracks were finished and sent to them last September.
They paid me and said the album release was scheduled for March.Then they told me the release was rescheduled for July.It’s still not published…and i don’t like thinking an album worth of material is sitting for 1 year now.
So,from now on,upfront money won’t be the key factor for me to take a job.I’m doing this for a living so,ideally,i want to work with the ones that put my music to work immediately.If the NE libraries worked great for me,sure,i would have stayed with them.It just didn’t work out well.I know others had/have great success with NE libraries.Maybe for a new library music composer (i started in 2013) is harder to find good NE libraries,specially when most of them turn to exclusive (or favor exclusivity).
Sometimes i do what you said Music1234; write a track for a brief but then deciding to keep it for direct licensing and RF use.I don’t do this very often though,only if i feel the track has NE potential.
I never thought the libraries that send briefs without upfront fees are “so manipulative”.If the requested music is in my ballpark,they share everything 50/50 and they got me great placements in the past then i don’t know how “manipulative” applies here.
Of course i would like to get paid upfront for my exclusive tracks.But only 1-2 libraries i work with do that and that’s not enough to pay the bills.RF income is ok but again only a small % of my yearly income.
If i give up the exclusive libraries that don’t pay upfront,then i’m losing at least 60% of my income.
And this means i should go back to my old day-job,which would make me less happy than i am now!KubedParticipantYes,i got both writer’s and publisher’s share ($17,79 x 2).
You are correct;RF libraries are more for youtubers but you might get a few RF sales per year ending up in broadcast use.
KubedParticipantCBS Sunday Morning News placement;
00:08 = $35,58
Mind you i got 200% of the royalties so,i guess it was a RF sale.
KubedParticipantArt,since Krisemm mentioned it,i recently noticed search box doesn’t work for me either.
It was working fine until a couple of months ago but then i got a new pc and since then the search box went dead.
I was on Windows 7,using Chrome and it was working fine.
Now i’m on Windows 10 and still using Chrome and the box doesn’t work.
It does work on IE though,so it could be a Windows 10 or Chrome issue?
I’m wondering which browser Krisemm uses.
Sorry if i went off-topic!KubedParticipantWay to go man!I know your music and you deserve this kind of exposure.
KubedParticipantMark Petrie is right about deposit/money wire thing.
I used to get the checks from BMI (i’m in Greece) and this year decided to fill in the BMI form for direct deposit.
The reason is exactly what you said Ruiz;very expensive cash in (the bank kept $80 from every check!!!),not to mention that the checks needed anywhere from 3-6 weeks to arrive to my door…Now i get my money the same day the quarterly statements are issued and the cost is a little over $3 🙂
Check with your bank though,the costs for wire transfers can differ from country to country.KubedParticipantA daily routine for me as well.
If i’m not in the mood to start a fresh track,i’ll revisit some of the projects sitting on my hd (around 15 atm) and try to finish one of these.
Usually,after listening to 3 or 4 of them,something clicks and i manage to work well for hours.Usually work on music from 11:00am – 15:00pm,have a 1 hour break and then
back to work for 2 more hours.
Then a 1 hour nap,couple of fruits,meet with friends and family and back for some more work from midnight to around 02:00am.
8-9 hours combined is the regular time i spend daily to my studio.
It can go up to 10-12 if i’m working with deadlines and weekends are not excluded.Lately i was thinking of a “No work on Sundays” rule but haven’t started it yet.
I’m a full time composer so,work hours can be flexible 🙂KubedParticipantTaken from their facebook page: “Still in the final stages of production… 2018 release!”
There are several teaser trailers on the youtube though;
Excited to see Matt Berry in it.
His character on “The IT Crowd” sitcom was so funny,haha.KubedParticipantLol!Almost everytime!
KubedParticipantMmm,that’s why i never liked the idea of doing “soundalikes”.
Some libraries and RF sites encourage artists to do them but to me,it sounds like walking on thin ice. -
