Art MunsonKeymaster
Spammers are hitting MLR hot and heavy so I’ve been trying more robust spam tools to keep them at bay. Recently the latest update of the spam plugin has been locking some folks out and causing various hiccups. I just went back to an older version that I think is better. So, patience please.
Thanks
ArtArt MunsonKeymasterThanks Mark, great post and I just put a link to it in the “Newbie Info”.
Art MunsonKeymasterYes, congrats Cari!
Art MunsonKeymasterHi Scott, please check this link:
https://musiclibraryreport.com/tag/relational-database/I’ve been working on my relational database for years. It keeps track of everything. Titles, re-titles, lengths, bpm, writers, contacts, etc and they are all inter-related. It’s humongous but I can pull anything I want out of it into a spreadsheet.
November 14, 2012 at 7:53 am in reply to: PRO, re-titling and publishing – confused foreign newbie. #7541Art MunsonKeymasterIs there any logic to submitting a full track (for example) to one library as exclusive, but saving all of the variations (30, 60, drums only, etc.) for non-exclusive use by more than one library?
I think the library you had the exclusive deal would take issue with that. Most contracts would cover any variations of a track.
Art MunsonKeymasterI don’t believe that is an issue with BMI/ASCAP.
Art MunsonKeymasterDo I have to pay for my own music when I publish it?
Sorry but I do not understand that question.

I should just post it anyway as a number of people are interested in it. Bigfoot was the band that other musicians came to see. It was quite something but like most bands it just blew up and swore me off bands for good!
Art MunsonKeymasterHi Alan,
I have 3 swappable drives and 2 internal. Here’s my setup.
1.) System Drive – Swappable – One drive Win 7, another drive Win XP
2.) Audio Files – Internal
3.) Backup of Audio Files – Swappable
4.) Sample Libraries – Internal
5.) Extra – Swappable – I use this drive for various chores such as making backups of backups, backing up sample libraries and archiving. I rotate these drives with those I have in a safe deposit box for offsite protection.November 8, 2012 at 10:47 pm in reply to: The Wrecking Crew – A Great Film On L.A. Email for VIP SeatingArt MunsonKeymasterOne of the things I did when I went Win 7 64 bit was to keep a separate Win XP install on another drive. I have removable drive bays so I just swap to Win XP if I have to go back to older projects.
I’m having a few quirky bugs also but I’m sure they will get sorted out.
Art MunsonKeymasterDoes it mean that any music that hasn’t been used reverts back to the writer?
Only if the contract states so.
Art MunsonKeymasterI’m considering signing up for BMI. Can this have any disadvantages for me? Am I still allowed to publish my own music?
From my point of view no. But some say RF sales might be better with no PRO affiliation.
PROs have no impact on your publishing rights.
Art MunsonKeymasterAND some guy backed into my car with his pick-up truck at a stop light!
Ouch! Sorry to hear that Michael.
Art MunsonKeymasterWhat currently works for me is to try and write every day and not to push it when I do. There are times when it’s only an hour or two but spiritually I always feel better when I can get some writing in at least once a day. I have learned to stop when the ideas stop, trying to push through it has never worked for me. Invariably the next day brings new ideas and a fresh outlook. I don’t remember the last time I had “writers block”.
In the morning I do my music admin work and whatever home maintenance, gardening (good for the soul!) or other necessary chores. I generally write from about 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, never past 6:00 though. I’m always plunking around on the guitar when I’m watching TV (thankfully Robin doesn’t mind) and get a lot of ideas there. I have Audacity running on my laptop and will play in any useful ideas for later.
The most important thing I have learned is to believe in the creative process. If you do, the music will always flow!
