Hello Michael, yes
boinkeee2000ParticipantI see, thanks art…you think having an LLC is a better route to take?
boinkeee2000ParticipantI see, thanks jd for your input..i i am more worried about the arrangement per transcribed to my instrument (guitar). i can understand that if you play a rendition of minute waltz in piano it would be the same finger placement as any other pianist would cover it. but on guitar i can hit a harmonic on a certain note in the piece and worried another arranger would go “hey i came up with that harmonic idea on that note”, hence can a technique/idea be copyrightable?
boinkeee2000Participanti think they’re gone or changed address…site is now film music institute. havent seen an email from them per briefs for months
boinkeee2000Participantwhat a great tip brian, thanks! no need to copy paste and sort in excel anymore
boinkeee2000Participantcongratz LA…thats amazing, and very inspiring. quite suprised you write kpop type cues, they r killing it
boinkeee2000Participantalso got some back royalties as far back as 2019 Q2, and a nice chunk from NCTA..dont know what that is but ill take it.
what concerns me is the bunch of missed 2020 Q1 placements per tunesat, dont know if Its too early to reach out to them now or wait til next statement…
boinkeee2000Participanthey johnnyboy, my main inst is guitar so maybe its a bit different from piano sketchingwise. how i start depends on the genre. if rock, metal, blues, or any gtr focused track i start with the main riff and build around that. for EDM i start with sound design as that will dictate my approach to the texture and melody of the track, with hiphop i start with the groove. with flamenco, jazz, or neoclassical piano pieces i approach it as a songwriter with an ABA format.
I have tried to muscle through finishing a track in a day but couldnt do it (unless its ambient drone or tension). not that i literally couldnt as ive done 3 in a day before, i just cant leave it alone the next day, especially if i have a few days left before deadline. nowadays if i hit a wall i just take a break and do something non music related and not force it. an hour or 2 is usually enough for me. im also comfortable now to take weeks off and come back and still hit my monthly quota (10-12/mnth)
boinkeee2000Participantcongratz alan, always a delight to hear about your latest milestones
boinkeee2000ParticipantI like to make music PERIOD. whether its for a brief, for the challenge, for therapy, for art, for purpose, and yes for money. same way i like to do gigs whether its a big event for big bucks, a hole in the wall for some change, or a friends bday party for some cake. Im not sure if anyone does any type of music solely for the money. dont misconstrue someones financial determination (or desperation) derail the fact that this is still passion at its core, only priorities change not the means. in fairness the guy who does loops and assembles songs still gets a kick out of making something.
and if theres ever a Music Lovers Report i’ll join that too lol.
boinkeee2000Participantcongratz! maybe i should try that with HGTV, dont mind getting some “hush money” with the crisis and all…
boinkeee2000Participantso all PROs use this or just your PRO (ascap)?
April 11, 2020 at 2:31 am in reply to: Seeking advice. Client reached out to me directly on RF site #34606boinkeee2000Participanti had a similar incident on a track in a beat store with exclusivity inquiry, it was too much of a hassle to take them down on all the libs (the beat store had an ext ver though), although the offer was substantial. we ended up making a deal for a new track similar (and i think better) to the desired….doesnt hurt to ask
boinkeee2000Participantyou cant copyright chord progression so i dont think you have a case
boinkeee2000Participantthanks kubed for chiming in, your early trajectory has been a benchmark for me and unfortunately i am nowhere near that. I sadly missed out on the era of good, abundant nonexcl/mid-tier libs & the RF boom. with so many changes in this landscape the last 3-5 years, I conclude it will be difficult (for me) to gain similar traction and take twice as long to reach same progress (im 2.5 years somewhat full time on this)…with 3/4 of my catalog invested in the dying nonexcl RF world & nonproductive nonexcl libs, and 1/4 spread thin on mid tier excl (that used to be nonexcl), my future 5 year report may well look like your 2 year report. thanks for the advise to keep going, im sure there’s folks in my tenure having real success, just need to keep my eyes/ears open…
