NY ComposerParticipant
Interesting article Art,
I don’t want to sound like a pessimist but streaming for TV and movies has just begun. Industry experts predict that the future of TV and movies will be streamed at a very high rate. The same crap payments goes for streaming film. I have a friend who made 150 bucks off of a Netflix show that ran a whole season and was viewed by millions.
NY ComposerParticipant30 seconds of my Orchestral piece on NBC Sports Mecum Auto auction paid about 7 bucks.
I will take you out for a steak after it’s repeated about 80 times.
NY ComposerParticipantHard to say. I find that anything on Cable pays like crap unless it is syndicated and repeated. I wish it would happen more to my stuff 🙂
NY ComposerParticipantDavey,
Are you talking network or Cable? I find that network sports pays quite well.
NY ComposerParticipantHey Chuck,
From my experience:
Take plenty of breaks away from the DAW and monitors to get a fresh ear a few times a day. If you don’t, you will drive yourself batsh#* crazy :-).
Also, listen at low levels then walk away 10 feet from the monitors.
The more you “Overlisten” to your tracks, the more you will question them. Think of it like using your first intuition on a test question. It usually works best.
I work 65 hours a week at a “Day job” but manage to hit 2 tracks on a day off.
NY ComposerParticipantI’m with BMI and wondering if I could switch to ASCAP.
Aside from not providing que sheets, BMI has been a headache with keeping track of placements and problems with tracking placements down.
NY ComposerParticipantThat’s great Danny!
Wishing you many placements……..
NY ComposerParticipantI am trying to collect on some NBC 30 second promos.
BMI has no idea about it. They are trying to track Que Sheets. They are also giving me a hard time because they don’t acknowledge Tunesat.
Hmmm, I wonder how often Set Designers, Cameramen and lighting techs don’t get paid for TV shows????
Sucks to be a musician sometimes 🙂
NY ComposerParticipantCool article.
It’s true what the author said. It’s rare to get a reply to a submission in the UK compared to the US.
NY ComposerParticipantYou are right about that. Something should be done because many people see the future of TV as an all streaming experience.
NY ComposerParticipantDanny,
Hate to sound like a pessimist but I have had publishers place tunes on itunes, Amazon, and Google. The sales were so low that it didn’t even warrant a statement.
NY ComposerParticipantHey Guys,
Great article.
I don’t want to over complicate the authors strategy but in his full album approach, is he sending a playlist of equally mastered tracks to the Libs and calling it an “Album” or is he sending an album in the physical sense?
He really did not get specific on that point.
NY ComposerParticipantAlan,
My missing Cue sheets are all Exclusive. I am especially interested in finding the network NBC placements.
NY ComposerParticipantArt,
I’m in BMI. I have been dealing with a very kind and helpful rep in the Beverly Hills office. The problem has been that if que sheets are lost or don’t exist, there is nothing to use for proof. They do not acknowledge Tunesat due to possible false positives. IMO, they should use it as a tool because Tunesat has picked up more placements than BMI in certain instances.
NY ComposerParticipantGood point guys!
Here in New York, you would think it is the pinnacle of live music.
Years ago, I would play gigs with my Straight Ahead quartet at bars, clubs, etc and get a nice chunk of change.
It started to become very popular for some newer talent to post Craigslist ads to play shows for 100 bucks or even free to get “Exposure”.
What basically happened is that these guys set the bar for what a band should get paid.
Now, my band comprised of Juillard and Berklee graduates with over 100 years of combined experience, is worth 100 or so bucks for 4 hours.
