VladParticipant
Can’t say that I have a solution for this, but when my non-library music (music for retail sale, which happens to be in a bit of a niche market) hit 20k streams and I saw the pathetic income it brought, I made the decision never to write any more of it. The streaming killed MP3 or iTunes purchases.
20,000 streams. If 20,000 people had paid $.99, I would own the entire 8dio catalog. Nope. Juicy Fruit. I was able to purchase some Juicy Fruit gum. Yep.
VladParticipant@DI (your original response in this thread)…..20 years? I can’t imagine that anyone who is a musician (composer, songwriter, or just a gigging musician) would ever make that statement. Unreal.
I know musicians that live off of music they wrote 20-30 years ago, and that living is well deserved.
VladParticipant@Desire Inspires,
This is great to hear, as I had never entertained that thought. If you don’t mind me asking, how long did they collect dust before you pulled the plug? I was thinking that 5-7 years should be enough time for the library to make a placement.
VladParticipantOne showed up earlier this week
VladParticipantIf you signed their agreement with the aforementioned terms, I would consider it a lesson learned and move on. I signed a few tracks away under such terms and could shoot myself for not being more careful. Lesson learned.
VladParticipantThank you all for sharing your thoughts. I was almost always shooting for authentic, as it just sounded right, but surely the gig determines the direction.
VladParticipantI am always concerned about how my track translates (whereas I am sure that was the last concern of early/mid Black Keys, for example)
Over think it? I would.
VladParticipantDenis made a great point. Read those license agreements and make sure not to shoot yourself in the foot. Providing stems for tracks with exposed loops can be a violation and that goes for some synths as well.
That said, I always use loops but mutilate them to the point where they sound like something totally different. Makes it a little more creative than just plugging in a bunch of loops and calling that ‘composing’. And this is just me. More power to the guys that do that and crank 3 tracks per day.
VladParticipantExactly what I am afraid of. I always end up checking every single file all the way through…..
VladParticipantBrilliant
VladParticipantHey guys,
Thank you for all of the constructive input!
Vlad
VladParticipantThanks Denis, that does look good…..I should have specified that I am a Windows guy.
VladParticipantAgreed. Okay, I have similar plugs.
Ozone 5, Nugen Visualizer, Sonalksis Free G
VladParticipant@ Art,
Good topic. Did you settle on any analysis plugins that you found to be favorites? I am thinking that the plugs I have used for years are perhaps insufficient.
Thanks in advance!
VladParticipant@ Gary,
Agreed. My worst quarter in a very long time. Taking a beating at libraries that have typically been very strong….one in particular. Has me pretty concerned about either RF, or how my brand is interacting in the RF market.
