VladParticipant
@ Michael L……..hilarious. Laughing my arse off over here.
VladParticipantDenis,
I stand corrected.
VladParticipantJust playing devils advocate:
John Williams
Thomas Newman
Harry Gregson Williams
Hans Zimmer
Steve Jablonsky
James Newton Howard
Michael Giachino
Brian Tyler
EtcOn this list, I would bet most or all of them read music (not sure about Brian Tyler)
Reading music doesn’t make a composer, but I would make an argument that it helps….functionality-wise.
VladParticipantThe first sentence of D.I.’s post was enough that I have gone and popped some popcorn and cracked open a Coke. Let the entertainment begin.
VladParticipantThat site is pure genius. The music clips are brutal.
It looks like a spoof of one particular library website, to me.
VladParticipantThanks for the response, Art!
VladParticipantodie76,
My suggestion would be that if the intended use is to create a track that you will ‘license’ in libraries, I would exclude those samples. Not sure where the law stands on it, just a gut feeling.
VladParticipantAt Pond 5 and Music Loops, perhaps I have set my prices too high. Not doing well at either, yet do very well at AS.
What kind of pricing are you guys having success with at those sites?
VladParticipantFull time musician since I finished music school in 1996. Never had a day gig. Made/make a living as a guitar player, but in 2008 the gigs started to dry up and I started writing a ton. Fast forward to today and my living is split between guitar playing, RF Libraries, TV/Film Libraries, and Ninja Assassin Work.
VladParticipantBeyerdynamic DT 880 pro. These sounded exactly like my Mackie HR624’s in a treated room…..with one exception: on the cans I could hear what was happening in the low end with a touch more clarity. It was a little more defined below 80hz.
I use them only for checking mixes.
In addition, I have another pair of no name $12 headphones that is the last check I do on a mix after aventones, Mackie, and DT 880’s. Those little no name garbage headphones help spot high end oddities on occasion.
VladParticipantThank you for your contributions to this and all other discussions on this site. I always find your posts to be informative and walk away with something to think about on the business end of all of this. All of your posts are truly in the spirit of sharing information.
VladParticipant3 two minute + cues per day seems unrealistic to me. And I can’t imagine they would be of much substance. I take great care in sound choices, song structure, and mix quality…in addition to as many real instruments as possible. 3 to 4 hours per tune? I think not.
VladParticipantThanks Art!
VladParticipant@Art: Of the 200-300 tracks, what is the ratio of instrumental to vocal tracks? (I know Robin and you are a team).
And which cues do you have more success with in TV placements, instrumental or vocals?
If these questions are too specific/intrusive, please ignore….
Thanks Art!
VladParticipantThese videos are hilarious. Denis, keep ’em comin’.
