    Hi there composers,

A filmmaker offered me recently 1% ownership of his movie for sync and master fee of one of my tracks, that he really liked. Never been in a situation like this. Does anyone have any experience, comments or advice to share?

    Best regards

That’s really a personal decision on whether you think the potential is there but I wouldn’t give it to him/her exclusively.

Oh yeah, the gotcha is to get it on the gross, not after expenses! From what I understand films will typically write off anything and everything.

It might be different for you, but in my experience that deal has always been a complete waste of time. Money upfront, non-exclusive, that’s all I’d accept unless the circumstances are totally exceptional and I have a watertight contract on gross revenue share with someone checking their books every month. Good luck.

    Art & Traveler,

Thank you for the advices! The offer is non-exclusive.
Contract on gross revenue makes big sense. Thanks!

    Good luck to you too!
