But…Art and DI, what if a colleague approaches you and says “Hey, I am onto this opportunity…send me a track that has “blank” sound and I’ll split the fee with you if they buy it.”

I’m with DI. First I don’t plan to have many in exclusives to begin with. More of a test run to see if it actually makes a difference in dollars. And, I would never send a colleague a track that was exclusive to someone else. What would be the point? Just easier to write something new.

    Not going ahead.

You can check my site built on WordPress. Not perfect but functional.

I did spend some money on custom programing the playlist function and grouping of alt mixes (about $2k) but you could get away without it. Without it there is the shopping cart software (eStore – about $50), a bunch of free plugins and what ever your hosting cost (about $10 per month for me). And, a lot of time learning and building it!

Only had one sale so far but haven’t had much time to go out and promote it yet.

@HappyEars: As far as I know Mark dropped his project. Too bad as I was looking forward to it.

@Desire_Inspires: I tend to agree with you. I don’t have the personality to go out and hustle my work. I’m more interested in making music and money but I’m not particularly married to what it takes to achieve this, exclusive, non-exclusive, royalty free, etc.

There are many composers here who have deep roots in the production music world and seem to have a better handle on being more pro-active with marketing their music. I’ve never had that skill set but have always managed to make my own way. We all have to do what feels right for us as each of us has their own comfort zone.

@erock: They must like the track. As far as common, what is these days! Kind of up to you. If they are a known quantity and you think it’s worth it I would make sure you have a reversion based on some kind of performance on their part. I wouldn’t do it unless I was really sure about them. That’s just my two cent opinion.

It’s not unusual for a library to have a different publishing company name.

@music_pro: Actually one was for CBS’s “Let’s Make A Deal”. The company that files the cue sheets has been late before. Thankfully I get it the next quarter and it’s well worth waiting for.

My International was about the same.

The good news in that reconciling my BMI and Tunesat it looks like some major network placements are missing on my last statement. Time to track those down.

I was expecting the drop as I noticed that quarter’s (2012 Q4) placements had dropped according to Tunesat. It seems to have picked up the following quarter so fingers crossed!
