I’ve been working on my own site for the last few years and finally almost have it ready to go. My main challenge was to see how much I could do myself. I finally had to opt to get some programming help on a couple of features I just could not figure out.

Mark Petrie recently launched his site and hopefully he will weigh in.

Yes, I was aware of that as I have a friend who has a small label and he gets “lots” of micro cents. LOL! I guess the best way to play it is to buy stock in Pandora as it’s publicly traded.

Barbie… honestly I think the self-promotion post you made was going a little far.

AB, I happen to agree with you.

I was impressed by the music in the PBS documentary “The Botany of Desire”, based on the book by Michael Pollen.  The composer was Martin Bresnick.

Please keep your experiences with ML out of the conversation. It’s not relevant. I have already deleted one segment of a reply so please no more.

Again, keep in mind that if things are changing, it could be happening slowly and spikes in a given direction may or may not be meaningful.

    Yep, spot on Advice.

I’m curious what this library is…

Spend a little time on the library listings and you will find a few possibilities. 🙂

@confused, I feel your pain! I have the same doubts and misgivings but as my PRO statements have been going up each quarter I will continue to submit. In the meantime I am reassessing on how I want to approach this part of the music business.

They are required by law to do so for U.S. citizens.

I stick to one cue at a time. I do my admin stuff in the morning, write a few hours in the afternoon and average one or two cues a week. I can write faster and have but I enjoy being a bit of OCD with my music. Then again I’m at a much different stage of life than most folks here.

It’s funny to see this question today – I believe that I set a personal record by writing 4 cues and starting on a fifth (cue, that is – I’m not a drinker). These are sketches, mind you, not fully produced. I’ll take care of that over the next few days. The reason I wrote so much today is because I’m working directly for a production company and, as usual, the turnaround time is tight so it behooves me to get rough sketches to the supervisor so that I can get feedback so as to avoid fleshing out tracks that aren’t going to work anyway. It’s actually kind of fun to work this way, albeit a little nerve wracking. I have to be very careful to keep the tracks distinct from one another.

Stylus RMX has a lot of kits and light percussion stuff. (over-due for a major update)

Another great one. I agree, it could use an upgrade.

Sample CDs and loops are for those with no creativity.

I beg to differ and that statement is quite a leap. It’s all in how you use them AND your creativity. You could say the same about automobiles. They all have the same basic components but with vastly different results.

Many times I view loops as another “player” in the room and shape them to fit what I need, somewhat like producing a real player. Other times a loop will give me an idea for something I can play myself. They are just tools to me.
