What Mark_Petrie said. All I did was open up an LLC through LegalZoom https://www.legalzoom.com/. Once set up you get an EIN from the IRS, set up a bank account for your LLC, notify other companies you want to be paid to your LLC and give them your EIN number in place of your TIN number.
Art MunsonKeymasterI tried to provide links but they were blocked
I fixed them Alan.
Art MunsonKeymasterI will say that I am only uploading non-exclusive tracks that I own and collect the publishing on.
Art MunsonKeymasterOn BMAT or Soundmouse, can we upload exclusive cues that were released through music libraries? Or should we contact the libraries first?
Don’t have an answer for that. Check with the library.
Art MunsonKeymasterI have only done a test upload to BMAT and they are very slow to respond. Plus, I’m not too sure about their contract after looking it over. I don’t have a problem with Soundmouse though.
Art MunsonKeymasterWhat do you mean by the uploads being free? When I talked top them they sent me a bunch of prices for monitoring my tracks.
Do you mean the one month pilot that they do for free? No, it’s not the one month pilot. They are encouraging all writers to upload to their system. Supposedly it will help. Here’s what I received from BMAT.
“Uploading your catalog is complementary and we always recommend it to our partners, as a way to increase their work’s recognition and compensation by being a part of our 90M + database which is used for monitoring worldwide. “
Art MunsonKeymasterDiscussed here many times. Use this link https://musiclibraryreport.com/search_gcse/?q=buyout
Art MunsonKeymaster@Music1234 I’m uploading to both Soundmouse and BMAT. With BMAT the uploads are free and it helps to ensure we are getting every penny from our PROs.
Art MunsonKeymasterIf possible will you please inform me of my IPI/CAE number & please e-mail it to me.
Login to your BMI account for that number.
Art MunsonKeymasterI have been reading all the info provided on your website(s). there is so much to learn, I just really dont know where to start.
Join and register your songs with one of the Performing Rights Organization. (BMI, ASCAP or SESAC if you live in U.S.)
For distribution probably the easiest way is with CDBaby or TUNECORE (Do a Google search)
Art MunsonKeymasterYour customer is not required to pay any royalties. The term “royalty free” is a misnomer. Most TV channels (but not all) and radio stations pay a yearly blanket license fee to the PROs. Depending on the time of day and channel/station you will be paid a royalty from that license fee by your PRO.
Art MunsonKeymasterOur payment was decent enough and in line with what we expected. A little bit more than last quarter with International down but US up. A nice payment from the YES channel. Have never heard of them. Could live on it but would be a challenge. Still, a decent passive income.
A couple of oddities. Facebook, of all things, paid much higher for Internet Audio, around $45 compared to single pennies from the likes of Spotify. For Internet Audiovisual Netflix paid pretty good, about $400, mainly from Rust Valley Restorers. Mostly pennies for all the others.

Art MunsonKeymasterMany libraries send out briefs. They will generally let you know or ask first.
