I have been doing that exact thing. Writing tracks for just 2 places at this time. With one library I tend to do tracks similar to what they have already taken and then send them over to see if they can use them or not. They have about 5 or 7 Exclusive Tracks. If not I send them out to other libraries for Non Ex use. The second library had taken a bunch of uke tracks and since then I work on the email requests that are sent. They have about 50 tracks. Funny thing is I just heard my first track used on TV and it was from neither of those 2 libraries…

Okay so yes I do reuse some tracks for new tracks but it is more like reworking the main melody or reversing the melody. But I’m more of an audio guy and less a digital midi guy. So I can’t really just speed up or slow things down and get a different result.

I’ve always hoped for a spot like that and now I think, wow years of learning and perfecting the craft and I’ll have no real return for that effort. A fair share is all any of us could ask for… I hope my goal of doing this full time is not thwarted in the coming years…

I’m 53, been a part time musician or songwriter for most of my life. My day job presently is in Fluid Seal Sales, don’t be jealous. I started to get serious in about October 2009. I haven’t had what I call real success yet but I just signed a bunch of tracks that should bring some placements. If they don’t I’ll be surprised. My plan is to do this full time with in the next few years but I’m not making nearly enough to try that yet. I only have about 150 tracks so what I’m trying to do now is focus on Exclusive contracts as my belief is that it’ll work better than having the few tracks I have competing with folks in libraries who have 2000 tracks.

Hey Art, Which Version of X3 do you have ? Regular, Studio or Producer ?

For plug in and processing I use Ozone 5 so I don’t see a big advantage there but I think I’ll upgrade after the holidays when I see that bugs are worked and everyone seems happy. I did watch the comp video the other day but as an old school purist I do one take until it has the vibe and sound I want. To me that’s so much easier than all of that editing. Plus it’s more fun and rewarding.

I’ve been using X1 since just before X2 came out, As a guy who records 95 percent guitars and percussion with microphones I would guess the only real need to upgrade for me would be to stay in the current version ? I would think the sound quality should not be any different correct ? I too am very leary of upgrades that have bugs and get in the way of making actual music.
    Thoughts ?

Thanks for your thoughts on this topic… They apologized and did offer to add that track now as Non Exclusive.
They are looking into why the other tracks that are not on the site. He thought maybe they were scheduled for the next upload but they’ve had the tracks for a year and a half so I’m inclined to think they were over looked. Oh well…

I shoot for one per week but then I do this along with a 40 hour regular job. I only have about 120 tracks at this point only because I keep re-doing crappy tracks rather than throw them away. I am also recording live instruments such as guitars and ukes and percussion and do not do much midi based recording which I think slows me down. How many of you out there do this full time or part time ?

I always say I’m still new at this as it is a part time passion for me (hopefully full time some day) but I had deduced a lot of this advice on my own over 3 years and it’s nice to see I am at least thinking in the right direction. I’ve learned to use more hand played purcussion and less drum tracks. I’ve been sticking to a certain style although I do try different things at times which work out such as a Ukulele and an Analog Synth track that got picked for an exclusive deal. Most importantly I try to learn as much as I can as the main reason I produce is because I love it.

Jay you’re my hero…  I started this thing seriously about 3 years ago and have just over 100 tracks in over 15 libraries but have only sold 10 tracks and I have no placements that I know of.  To see what you have overcome and accomplished will make me work a little harder. I ‘m about to reach 52 so yes it is nice to know there is a place for our music in this world of Brittneys and Biebers.

    Kudos
