thanks Guys. hey Michael i’ll see if i can find that post of yours, low five figures nice money. what exactly are informercial’s? are the the awful adverts that play over and over late at night selling kitchen knifes etc?

Mark i presume the $50k figure would be a kinda buy out fee where the client would only want exclusivity of that track for their product campaign and couldn’t be used by anyone else?

i doubt you’re gonna get very many people giving their golden eggs away on a forum. and as someone else said once a library that might be killing it for one composer may be a dead duck for another.

    hey Sheeaun,

i’m from Dublin myself. yeah Ireland seems to be a bit of a waste ground when it comes to production music. its understandable though we are a tiny nation. i guess there might be an industry here but i didn’t take the formal music education direction so i don’t know anyone in the business here. i would suggest sticking to working with the UK and US libraries, any composers i know from Ireland who’ve made it big in the production music or trailer music game have had to look outside this green Island of ours for success. best of luck with it. i’m still on the same journey.

thanks mike some good points. yes up to now the only open places were i link to my music tend to be composer forums. other than that its just friends and family so i suppose it makes sense to have that many plays. the point you make about how long others have been posting their music is also a good one. i’ve been uploading about 2 years and i can see that others have been posting for 5 or more. anyway this is not anything to do with popularity but more to do with finding my audience for my music. libraries are great but only if they’re placing your music. if not your music is just sitting hidden from the world and as a composer who might be proud of certain tracks they have written doesn’t sit well with me. i just feel soundcloud could do more to help composers connect with those listeners that like that genre hence why i thought there were tools or methods in place to help people connect with their listeners. at the moment it just seems that its based on if somebody happens to come across your page by chance or by using your own method of social media.

btw i presume if you have exclusive tracks in a library you cant post them on youtube is that correct? i’m not even overly sure i should be posting them on soundcloud.

yes you’re right but its more from the want of reaching more people out there who might like my music. its not just for the benefit of the libraries i was thinking.

any exclusive tracks i’ve wrote so far for libraries i’ve asked them do they have a problem with me uploading them to my soundcloud page and they haven’t. i guess alot of libraries feel different about this issue. i like my tracks to reach people and hidden away in a library somewhere is not an ideal way.

does anyone have any good tips for driving more people to your soundcloud page? i get some emails through soundcloud from companies claiming they help drive listeners to your page, are these things scams? i have my stuff up about 2 years now with have about 30 tracks up with nearly 7,000 plays in that time but i see other composers with 100,000 plays, how did they manage that?

for those of you who use soundcloud, what are the ways you use for getting more people to your soundcloud page for more plays? are those emails you get about “how to gain more listeners” scams? i received a few of these on a number of different occasions. is there radio-station style pages on soundcloud where you can re-post your tracks that have big listenership’s in certain genres?

for me i just love the idea of trying to reach as many people as possible with my music whether it brings in any financials or not.

Also,BMI states that if you’ve earned less than $250 in a quarter, the money will be transferred to your next statement (or whenever you exceed the $250 mark – this means you don’t get a statement until you reach $250).At least that’s for those who live overseas, maybe it’s not the same for a U.S. citizen (i’m not sure but i remember something about a very low limit for the U.S. citizens, something like $20?again i could be wrong, maybe someone else could share some info about it)

i don’t like the sound of this. is this also the same situation with ASCAP members? this waiting game is killing me.

The ratings page already gives you that info. Small_Ocean is right, if a library is not listed it did not get enough votes. A library needs at least 20 votes to make the list. I could always lower the number of votes for a library to make the list.

yeah i understand that but i think it would be good to have an actual section were you ask people to rate all the 475 libraries listed rather than it being an after thought to rate if you just happen to be on that libraries page.

i think then you would get libraries with more than 20 votes. people love to vote imo. also what i meant is to include it into a search criteria somewhere. for example all libraries with rating stars 8 and above we as the user could run a search ourselves whether they got 5 votes or 50. it would be just a nice way at seeing those libraries that are rated highly or alternatively very low by even small numbers of composers rather than having to search them all individually and work it out for yourself.

I really believe there is a trend coming that more and more Sups will want Exclusives because more and more Libs are promising it.

absolutely. actually i think we are seeing the end of the non-exclusive model that is not RF. all that will be left will be non exclusive RF libraries and exclusive libraries. i believe libraries not engaged in the RF game are realizing the value of having their own unique catalogue to offer to the clients. whether this is being pushed by the clients or the libraries who knows but the reality is its happening.
