  1. HELLO,

my name is Angelo Camassa and I am a member of Smashsongs.

I am having trouble in logging in to your site.

I am a little bit disappointed and frustrated about this and also about your Battle of songs contest.

I have paid £ 12.98 to submit one of my songs and it seems like that even though you have collected my subscription fee, you have not solved this issue.

    Regards

    • Angelo,

You are at the wrong place to complain to Smashsongs. MusicLibraryReport.com is only a directory of music libraries. Someone from Samshsongs MAY monitor this site but any complaints should be directed to them, at their website.

      Good luck

      Art

  2. Just went to check out the site (i.e. I clicked on several links above), as well as, typed in the web address manually (www.smashsongs.com) and received an internal Server error. Just sent an email to the webmaster as a courtesy.. Oh well… Guess I’ll check later…

  3. This site is really great.I’ve had a couple songs licensed through here. It’s free too so not sure what people are complaining about.

    • Hi Minny , do you know if the buyer is required to get a cue sheet going? I didn’t see that mentioned in the contract.

  4. One problem I’ve found is that I can’t find anything about the company, like who owns it, where they’re located, who the leadership management, staff or team are, etc. Nothing shows up on Network Solutions, google searches or even on LinkedIN.

Seems like they’re hiding their true identity, so to me that’s a clue and/or a “red flag” that something isn’t adding up. If they’re above board and have nothing to hide, why do they have to operate in such a stealth mode?

Nearly all the other libraries and services listed on MLR provide plenty of info about their background, history, people, mission statement, experience, qualifications and various contacts, etc. When the owners/operators have to go underground, that’s probably a clue that they’re not going to be there when you need them, they don’t intend to be accountable, or worse, they’ve got a history of scamming artists with a trail of bad reputation they’re rather keep covered up.

Sure, you may find them on MySpace or Facebook, but those are just ad banner sites with no other info or details then they’re sharing on their official domain site.

    My 2 cents!
    Michael

  5. In case anyone is interested I just completed a purchase transaction from the SmashSongs web site. Everything went really smoothly – the sonwriter is happy – I am happy and I now have exclusive rights to Life, the Universe and Everything by Shoot the Freaks.

    • Did you read that link carefully?

      $20 per song submission….

*If* they think it meets the criteria, they will forward it to the library. *If* the library chooses it, you will sign a non-exclusive agreement. *If* the library signs it the end users still have to choose it above all the other songs the library forwards them. There are no guarantees except you’re guaranteed to hand over $20 per song submitted !?!

If your music is good enough to be used, you can approach such libraries yourself for free. That’s the whole point of this website.

Sounds like a middleman for a middleman. 😀

A great business model. Send me your track (with $20). If I like it, I’ll forward it to one of the non-exclusive libraries for consideration.

Okay, if this is true, I’ll do it for you with only a $10 submission fee. 😀

  6. I setup a profile and LOVE the “model” of this but can’t help wonder if there’s much traffic from anyone but musicians ?.I read this is a recent start up (less than a year old I think) so I understand things take time.Easy upload process and setting your own prices is nice. There’s no screening process so I wonder if that will deter Music Supervisors etc. from wanting to spend a lot of time wading through tracks ?

I hope this succeeds – anyone hear of any placements through this ?

Good luck to them and i’ll give my tracks a year or two there – every little bit of exposure helps – john

  7. Wow!
It seems like a facebook for musicians!
I am curious – people set 500-1000usd/track (even 15k!) for non-exclusive worldwide license.
Most of RF sites has price not more than 100usd per license.
I am in real doubt that it is possible to sold a non-exclusive license for 1k (or more).
What do you think – do you have a positive experience with such pricing?

  8. Hmm…looks quite nice and fair actually.

The only negative thing is the pricing: the price is the same whether the song is used for a YouTube video or for the next James Cameron film.

It seems that the majority of the artists have made the decision to go for the big bucks as the prices generally range from 500 to 2500 dollars. Well, at least Smashsongs is not devaluating music like some other sites.
