I’d like to think that we as artists/composers/humans will always find a way around obstacles. The old phrase “adapt or die” comes to mind. We somehow find a way of doing just that.
What confuses me is the definition of “published”. If I release music through our publishing company and record label, isn’t that considered published? Seems a bit murky the way the Copyright Office explains it.

I had this conversation with BMI back 2013. BMI’s reply was:
“BMI can only process promo data as they receive it.” In other words they rely on the networks to submit the data. Majors generally do but smaller ones usually do not.
It would most likely be by making personal contacts with TV production companies. That’s how it has worked for us. Granted we have had only a couple but I’m not great at networking or cold calling.
